Whats wrong with tuna?
I used to eat it all the time with my 1st pregnancy and no one told me it was bad. I ate it about 4 times a week and she was born 6lbs 8once and very healthy...So can someone explain to me why its so bad? Oh and hot dogs? Same too...

Mercury.
Tuna has mercury. White is preferable to albacore because it has slightly lower levels. And mercury can impair brain/nervous system function and development.
Hot dogs are just gross. lol

Hot dogs: It's safe to enjoy a hot dog, provided it's fresh off the grill or has otherwise been cooked until steaming hot (to at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit) to kill bacteria that may be present. But because hot dogs are generally high in nitrates, as well as fat and sodium, they're best as an occasional treat.

You should limit yourself to one can a week.
The thing about tuna, and fish and seafood in general, is that they tend to have high levels of mercury, which can be bad for baby. Eating them in moderation is fine of course, even recommended. Depends on the fish/seafood. Some are not recommended to be consumed during pregnancy b/c they have levels that are generally too high to outweigh the benefits.
Hot dogs have the same concern as lunch meat- listeriosis. ?This is not necessarily in every piece of meat or hot dog, but the chance is enough to just make sure that you heat it through, that kills the culprit. Who wants a cold dog anywho?

You mean your doctor never told you any of this during your last pregnancy? Maybe you should consider getting a new doctor? Or maybe get WTEWE book. It's super boring but informative.

well truth be told bubblebrain- if the question is asked (especially today) more than once- people will tend to snark. Plus you could get your answers on google faster than on here with a little less bitchiness. Comprende?
I am on here for entertainment, not answers. and you should already know half of this ***- you already have a kid- stupid questions are kind of lame now.
Why read a book about pregnancy when you are pregnant? Really?
Ignorance it NOT bliss. It's just makes good sense to be informed and have the answers to these basic things.

This website is not here for support. It's here for advertising dollars. They prefer that people be supportive, kind and play nicely with others because more people are likely to come.
Everyone has different motivations for being here. Some people are here for information, some for support, some for moral superiority, some for intellectual superiority, some for snark, some for entertainment.

There is mercury in tuna and other fish. You are supposed to limit fish to two servings per week I believe. Mercury is bad for you and your baby. I read something awhile back where a women believed that her eating tuna all the time during pregnancy was linked to her kids having autism.
Hot dogs have tons of chemicals and preservatives in them and have apparently been linked to increased health issues in babies and children. Increased risks of cancer and such. I read an article that said vitamins and a healthy diet take most of that risk away.
What about mayo?

I'm not sure you fully understand how message boards work. Telling someone to be nice? Never works. Telling people to ignore your questions if they think they are dumb, while not ignoring the responses yourself? Not going to help the situation.
