TTC After a Loss

sort of a strange question...

So I suffer from IBS big time and my symptom is constipation. I have found that when I have a tummy ache that it is helpful to use a heating pad.

Well, during my first pregnancy, I used the heating pad a lot not knowing that I was pregnant.  I miscarried only 5 days after finding out I was KU.

I can't help but think that the heating pad had some sort of adverse impact.

So fastforward to today... I am feeling awful today. Not really bloat but definietly uncomfortable. I have been using the heating pad sparingly over the past week but I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Part of the reason that I feel this way has to do with not using hot tubs and maintaining a proper body temp. I hope that this makes some sense to some one.

  • When I was KU, the Dr said absolutely NO heating pads on the belly OR lower back.  HTH.

  • Yes, that does help but now I might start beating myself up for our first loss.

I am not trying to be a drama queen or anything but when you have no answers you grab at anything.

I guess I will just continue to suffer today.

  • I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with it being so early.... (meaning, that did not cause the miscarriage)  (hugs)

Although I wish you don't beat yourself up, I can totally relate.  That's what I did when we lost Jack....  It was an umbilical cord accident 2 days past his due date.  I felt guilty b/c I though I should have just known something was wrong in there (even though everything was perfect in the outside world).  I tried to guilt myself into thinking that his kicks & movement was him telling me he's tangled & needs help.

So -yes - I understand what you're feeling.  However, there are a million reasons for an early m/c....  And you didn't know about the heating pad thing...  And - who knows - maybe my Dr said that...and maybe it was just his opinion?!?!  :::HUGS:::  I'm sorry.

  • Ok so I have just been reading and I keep finding mixed reviews. Some say no heating pad because it might increase your core temp or because of the electromagnetic affects.

But others say that if used for short periods of time without high heat and not directly on the skin that both mom and baby should be fine.

Well, the heating pad I use is one you toss in the microwave. So it begins out hot but I don't put it close to my skin then as it cools I might have just a t-shirt inbetween it and my belly.

I use it for about 30 minutes total but it is decreasing in heat that entire time.

Therefore, I might forgo it for now but talk to my doc if I am KU.

    Thanks ladies for indulging me.

  • Hmm... if you're just using the microwave heating pad, I doubt that that can cause your core body temperature to raise to 102 degrees (i think thats the "danger zone")

I'm sure you would be fine.. I think there are stool softeners that are safe to use too (I just don't know which kinds)
