My children are 3 and 4. They've been in daycare since March 2008. Everytime they get a cold they get mild ear infections. The doctor treats it with antibiotics and they go away. However, he wants me to take them to an ENT. No problem. I know these are common issues for children. I'm not against antibiotics, but am aware of the danger/risk os taking them so often and my pedi agrees, but when he saw the last ear infection he said "I know what you mean about antibiotics, but this ear infection can do far more damage than a round of meds." This was a particularly bad infection.
Do you know of any home remedies or tips for things to do for ear infections that I may use in conjunction to the pedi's advice? At the moment, they take multivitamins with extra vitamin C and zinc, I spray saline solution in their noses twice a day, took them off regular milk and put them on almond milk (in case it's a milk allergy like I've read), etc. Anything else? They have an appointment with the ENT next week. I'll try anything that doesn't sound insane. So far they LOVE almond milk.
TIA!
Re: Tips for kids with ear infections?+
Yup, sounds like my boys. I know it's partly a sinus drainage issue so I use the saline to help. We had seen the ENT in November when my eldest put a button battery up his nose (long story). He suggested saline twice a day. My sister had tubes put in as a small child and they helped a ton.
Thanks!
I'm with you. I have severe sinus issues and I think my DD inherited the problem - if that's possible. I had tubes when I was younger and now my DD. Oh, I STILL use saline in my nose and I'm 33!
Good luck!
