How realistic is your registry?

I haven't registered yet - have only started a fantasy wish list, but I'm wondering - are you putting stuff you'd like in a dream world on there?   Or only bare necessities?

Re: How realistic is your registry?

  • Mine is very realistic. I don't have anything crazy or out of the way on mine.

  • I haven't registered yet, either.  But I plan to keep it pretty realistic - I have to consider the people who will be buying off it, and truthfully, none of them will be splurging...

  • At first I was putting everything on there but then a great friend said it may look overwhelming having all that stuff on there. I would stick to the bare necessities and not to worry about clothing b/c people will buy it anyway.

somewhere in the middle. i mean, i need a car seat and a stroller. i need a glider. but do i expect people to buy them for me? that would be lovely, but if they don't, i'll put that completion discount to use!
  • I put mainly the things we need. 3/4 of my registry items are under $20, and then I put a few items like a swing and a breast pump, that I want to buy when we get our completion coupon. (Must be on registry to get discount)
  • I have all kinds of stuff on there. I know some of my family members will buy the more expensive things so I added them. I also have things on there for a few dollars like pacifiers and bottles. I wanted to give people the option. I basically covered everything we need and some 'want" items too.
  • We put all our big items on there and then some fun stuff too :). We put a ton of wipes and diapers, crib, jumperoo, swing, high chair, stroller, bedding set and all that stuff. I figure whatever we don't get I'll go out and buy but a lot of people have told us they really want to get big items so...why not see who will buy it..
  • I'm keeping it realistic.   & just what we need.  No clothes or blankets because I know I'll get a ton of those at showers.
  • I put and will put a lot of stuff on mine. Not only do I want everyone to have many things to choose from but I also will use it as a checklist once my baby shower is over.
  • We don't need a lot (I've been 2nd hand shopping for most things) so it's very bare necessities. I didn't include clothes or many toys since people will buy want they want of those anyhow.

ETA - A lot of people have been laid off around here also, so I don't want people to feel like they have to buy things. Being the last of of my family and "circle of friends" to have a baby, I really just want the opportunity to spend the day with some of the most amazing women in my life :)

  • Only what is needed, as I am not having a shower. I plan on actually buying every single thing I put on there.

  • I had a wide variety and price ranges.  You would be surprised about people getting together and ordering a group gift.  I checked out my registry yesterday and somebody bought our car seat - the one I put on there to buy with the completion coupon, never thought someone would spend close to $300 on it!
  • I've put some essentials, no big ticket items, some "fun" stuff.  No clothes or blankets - I've been warned that you get so many of those that it's pointless to register for them.
  • I am putting the necessities primarily, but also some items that I think would be nice and useful to have.  Nothing crazy extravagant is on my registry at this point.

  • We have put some extravagent stuff on there (not much), not expecting people to buy it for us, but so we can use the completion discount at the end and buy it for ourselves.

  • I'm not the kind of person to ask for more than we need, and will be happy if we get anything. We are in the middle of a recession, people have a lot of more important stuff going on right now then buying me a stroller.
  • This is my 2nd, so obviously I'm not registering.  I did start a list for myself and my DH though to keep track of things we need for this baby and things I like.

My registry for my DS was very realistic.  The most expensive item was a carseat that I didn't expect anyone to buy, but a few friends chipped in together and got that.  Otherwise, all the big items were bought already by us or by family.  My parents are divorced so total there are 3 sets of grandparents, and each wanted to buy a piece of furniture for the room.  My sister wanted to buy our travel system, so those things were decided way ahead of time and never included in the registry.  We bought the crib, the bedding, all the room decorations, and some other stuff too.  Other than that, I had bottles, paci's, a few toys, a diaper bag, a bouncer, some safety items, and things like that.  Nothing crazy.

  • I haven't registered but i'm only putting things that i really "need".  I know times are tough for people and would rather have a stroller or car seat instead of a product i'm never gonna use.

This is my plan as well.

  • i haven't registered yet, but i think it'll be pretty reasonable. all of the big ticket items (stroller, glider, crib, furniture) will be taken care of by my parent's and DH's parents... for the rest I'm going to register with a friend of mine that has 4 kids - she knows what's necessary and what isn't. there are a lot of things I just don't need too - like baby monitors- We live in an apt, I'll be able to hear if the baby is crying, and baby gates - it's one level no need for that.

i won't register for clothes either. people tend to buy that anyway.

this is the first grandchild on both sides, so we already know and joke that this baby will be spoiled. I'm not sure the grandmas will leave much on the registry for everyone else... haha

  • I'm mostly keeping the registry as a list of things we need.  Both DF and my families are in tight spots financially so we're not expecting a whole lot.  Most of my registry is books, music and videos we want for baby that are under or around 20$.  We have a few other things but we haven't even put furniture on there at all.  We figure either we'll find something second hand or buy it ourselves.  I DO have a video camera and a TV on our registry though...ya know in case anyone is feeling generous....  Stick out tongue
