Advice for 1st roadtrip needed plz!

Hey ladies!  We are traveling with our DS on Memorial Day weekend.  It's about a 6-7 hour drive.  And we've never taken him on a long trip.  He is two months old.  I guess the thing I am worried about is messing up what little of a schedule he is on!  Any tips and advice, what to bring, etc?  TIA!!

  • I'm taking DD on her first long car trip Memorial Day weekend also. For us though, it's only about 2 1/2 hours. I'd say you'll probably want to make frequent rest stops along the way.

  • just plan on a lot of stops for feedings, changes, etc.  I wouldn't worry about messing up the 'schedule'...you'll get back on track when you get home.

  • We went on a 12 hour car ride when DS was almost 3 months old.  We left at night after his bedtime routine hoping he would sleep most of the way - but that did not happen.  On the way there he woud wake up every two hours.  We would stop at a gas station and I would nurse him.  Then he would sleep for the next 2 hours and we'd repeat.

We decided to do the same thing on the way home - because it wasn't too bad briefly stopping every 2 hours.  Unfortunately he did not do the same thing.  He only slept for a total of 5 hours!  It was horrible.

I'd recommend making many stops.  Take DS out of the car and walk around.  Sitting in the back might help if he can see you.  Maybe bring a glowing musical toy he can look at.
