2nd Trimester

Any Dancers out there?

I do jazz and tap and I am going to continue until our recital which is June 20 and I will be 21.5 weeks.  Last night in class I was getting some leg crampage, I was drinking and drinking lots of wter but I was wondering if anybody else had this happen?  I am a bigger girl too but....I have been exercising since last may and have lost 67 lbs. I have only put on lik4 lbs this pregnancy so far.  Any suggestions as to helping with leg cramps or more like just muscles tightening in your legs while exercising or dancing?

water and pottaium are the way to go. try having a banana before each class.

  • Im not a dancer, but always heard that leg cramps could be caused from lack of potassium and that is helpful to eat a banana before or after working out to help avoid this.
  • Eat some bananas.  Bananas usually help with cramping muscles.  I am a dancer, not dancing currently, but I am coaching colorguard at a local high school.  This summer, I'm sure I will be pretty active when it comes to our tryouts next week and then our choreography camp.  Water and bananas are my suggestions.  Good luck and hope you feel better!
  • I'm a ballet teacher!  I've been trying to dance with my students as much as possible, but I'm finding that I get dizzy easily when it comes to turns and jumps.  Luckily, we are in the thick of recital so I'm just dancing with the girls during warmup then sitting to watch them rehearse.

My suggestion is to eat lots of bananas to get the potasstium.  I used to get terrible cramps in my legs when I was in highschool and the bananas really helped!  Plus, lots of stretching!

I read something the other day about a lack of calcium also contributing to cramps so make sure you are getting plenty of that in addition to the water and potassium.

  • Thanks alot everyone, I will try those things and see what happens next week.
  • Keep up the water.  Avocados are also high in potassium.  Also, putting up your feet for 15 mins before and after will help too.  GL.
  •  Stretching, bananas and congrats on the weight loss - you are a rockstar!!!
