I love how watering our lawn and plants makes them look, but MAN! Since we started back up last week the snails are OUT OF CONTROL!!!! They are sooo gross!?
Anyone know of any snail deterrents that are chemical free?
I've sprinkled salt around my plants (but it washes away after we water) and I've drowned them in a bucket of water and bleach (hundreds, I'm telling you. It was freaking NASTY), but they keep coming back.?
Re: non-chemical snail deterrent?
Hmmm... maybe I'll start keeping my egg shells! I think I've read that too. But I'd need ALOT of egg shells to combat this snail problem! It's almost embarassing to have people come to my house!?
A bowl about the size & height of a margarine tub, filled with about an inch of beer. You can hide quite a few of these behind or underneath low-lying foliage. They crawl in & don't crawl out.
Then I'd try the egg shells to keep them at bay.
From a google search - Copper bands around tree trunks will keep snails off by causing a small electric charge that deters them from crossing the band. Another snail deterrent is placing a band of fine sand about 1/4 inch high around the base of plants - snails do not like to cross sand.
Another one from a gardening blog: Coffee grounds is the remedy.
"What's this you say? A snail after having tried to cross the coffee corridor! They cannot get through, for , as you might be able to see, their slimy undersides collect the fine grounds rendering them incapable of gliding, and more important, incapable of making it to my tender little bean plants"

come and get them. I have no shortage! Maybe YOU are my non-chemical remedy! ?
That's right! I read about the copper too.
