Did you/will you take a L&D class?

We didn't - just wondering if we were all alone out there

Re: Did you/will you take a L&D class?

  • DH and I are taking them.  They start 6/3/09 and are every Wed. for the following 4 weeks.

I'm just taking the one class that goes along with my hospital tour
  • Nope we didnt.
  • I don't think we are going to.  I might look into a BFing class though.

i wanted to but dh kinda frowned on it- although its my choice in the end haha- and he will have to go whether he likes it or not! but he seemed to frown on it because his sister didnt do it (apparently he has to compare my pregnancy to hers here and thereAngry)
  • We skipped the childbirth class, but we did take a BFing class.

  • Mine start this Sunday!!! We go every Sunday evening for 6 weeks!! It's childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care all in one class...I'm really excited!  More for DH to learn stuff.

  • We did, but I really did it more for my DH than for me.  I didn't learn anything I didn't already know, but he is pretty clueless and squeamish so I think it was a good prep for him.  We're also taking a child safety class which I think will be good for both of us.  It's just one morning, but teaches things like infant CPR, choking, etc.

I am taking a class.  But we are doing the one day class from 9-4:30.  Talk about a long day of childbirth!

  • Yep, starting May 27th
  • we did take a BF class, which was about 60% helpful.  The other 40% was common sense.
  • With my first pregnancy I planned on taking a couple of classes but delivered 7 weeks early.

I'm not taking any this pregnancy!

  • We are taking a Childbirth Prep class on a Sat and Sun next month. The hospital tour is included in that class. We are also taking an infant CPR class, but no BF class. I hope that I can get by without that, with just the help of the lactation consultants at the hospital.
  • We took birthing, babycare basics, and breast feeding. We took them between 32 and 36 weeks.
  • Nope. We have watched this DVD:

    https://www.amazon.com/Laugh-Learn-About-Childbirth-Bayles/dp/B000PLXFSS

It is very informative and makes DH and I get excited about the birth. I highly recommend it. So much better than a class IMO. I took one with my DD and it was a waste of $. The nice thing about a DVD is we can pause it and chat about what we learned. We also have spaced it out. We watch one 45 min. segment every week. It has taken us 6 weeks to get 3/4 of the way through it. We still have about an hour left to watch.

  • We're not. We're taking Infant CPR and Breastfeeding, but not the labor class. I've given birth before (although not typical scenario, it was very fast preterm labor and we knew the babies wouldn't survive), and I figured the combined factors of (1) having that experience, albeit limited, (2) knowing I would be getting induced and having an epidural and therefore no need for knowing Lamaze/Bradley, and (3) knowing that it would upset me to sit through the class based on my history, I decided against it and my doctor said I didn't need it.
    *** It's funny because I'm fat ***
  • We took Lamaze.  It was helpful even though I plan on using drugs.  You never know if you'll be one of those people whose labor stalls, they can't get an epi, or the epi wears off early.  I think it was also a huge wake-up call for DH with how painful labor really is, how important his role is, and what to expect post-pardum.  We also plan on taking a BFing class together so that he can learn what is involved with it and be more supportive and sensitive.
  • We did--an 8 hour one day class--and regretted it.  It was boring, uninformative, and a waste of time or money.  Wish we'd saved the $80 for something more useful for our baby.
  • We are taking an 8 hour course on the 30th of this month

  • We are. So far they have been very informative. I am glad we are choosing to take them. The class did cost us $75, but we think its worth it. Tomorrow we get a tour. I am excited.

  • I second the Laugh and Learn about Childbirth dvd.  It's awesome!  Plus, we were able to rent it out from the library so it didn't cost us a penny.
  • I don't think we will, I would rather take something like BFing or CPR...
  • Yes, we started our class on Monday.  It is five, two hour sessions including a BF workshop and a tour of the birth center at our hospital and finishes at the end of May.

  • We are, it is 4 week class. We are also taking a breastfeeding and Happiest Baby on the Block class.

  • With #1, we took an 8 hr crash course. We could have done without it but I did feel that it was sort of a bonding experience. And mostly it helped DH with ways to help me in the final days and during labor.
  • Ours is starting tonight - I want to take it basically to bond with DH and get us thinking about how we will interact and how he can support me during labour. He's a doctor, and he has delivered tonnes of kids, but he's never been at the other end before, so I think it will be a good experience for him to learn how to help me. I'm excited!!!

I wasnt going to because DH works nights and cant go with me. But my mom said she would go, so I start tomorrow night. I figured if I go to the first class and dont like it, I wont go back. It doesnt cost us anything. I did sign up for, and am excited for, breast feeding classes.

  • We didn't last time nor this time. I knew I wanted an epi.

We're not. This is my second child so we kinda know what to expect.
  • We didn't take any classes for baby#1 and made it through just fine. We aren't going to take any classes this time either.
  • We started Bradley Method classes Monday, it's 2 hours a week for 8 weeks. They are a little heavyhanded about being against drugs, but I want a natural childbirth and DH wants to be my support and "Coach" so I think it will be good. He was a little fussy about having to go after work but he is getting better now. I really don't want an epi so I want to be prepared to do what I have to do to avoid one.
