? from 3 tri about nursing bra/tank

I am planning on breastfeeding/pumping and I have yet to get a bra or tank. My question for you ladies is which one should I go and purchase a nursing bra or a nursing tank? I was planning on going to Target to get one before my induction tomorrow

Thanks for your help

  • I have a few nursing tanks from Target.  I wear them all the time!  I think buying a nursing bra would be hard before your LO is born because you won't be sure of what size you'll be.

  • I have 3 tanks from target and one Medela.  I like the medela one better, but it was way more expensive.  Just go for the target ones.  I'd start with 2 or 3.

  • Go for the tanks.  I think you should wait until your milk comes in to get a bra.  GL!

  • Start with a tank.  I also get a lot of use out of my medela sleeping bras.  They don't provide a lot of support, but they are the best at holding my leak pads in place while I sleep.
  • Both.  The tanks were great in the hospital and lounging around the house but you will need a real bra but get only 1 now and then get measured for a second once your milk comes in to ensure right size.
  • I bought some nursing bras before I had my baby, but I bought them a size up from normal. I got them at Motherhood Maternity, and I love them. I went back there and someone asked me if I had any sleeping bras either and I thought that is stupid, but I tried one on and it is so comfy I am going to get more. Good luck to you!! I hope you enjoy your baby Riley as much as I have enjoyed my baby Riley.

  • I LOVE my sleep bras- I think I have one LLL brand and one medela. They are so comfy - not a lot of support like a PP said - but they are very convenient. All I wear around the house. I do have a tank from target too and like it, but I prefer a sleeping bra + V-neck tshirt at home.

Agree w/ everybody else about waiting til your milk comes in to get a real bra.

  • I also love the Target nursing tanks, they are so comfy and I could live in them (and sort of do!)  I wish they were a bit cuter, though, or came in more than just white, black and nude.

I waited until after DD was born to be measured for a nursing bra.  The LC at my hospital came in to measure me, before I was fully engorged, so the bra wouldn't be too big after my supply regulated.  I wouldn't buy a ton of the bras just yet, but that's just my opinion.  She measured me as a 40B and that bra is now HUGE on me, since I feel like my supply is a bit more regulated and I don't wake up engorged.  I got another bra last week that's a 36D, fits so much better.

    Good luck at your induction!!

  • good luck on finding a tank that fits- i tried the Target ones, and they sure didn't fit me. i was a 34DD during pregnancy, and i couldn't get my boobs into one then. now i'm a 34G, so they obviously don't fit!
  • I've only worn my nursing bra once...it made me crazy. I pretty much live in nursing tanks right now, especially around the house.
  • Thank you ladies so much for getting back with me so fast! I am off to Target to go get some nursing tanks. I will wait to buy some bras. Thank you for the good lucks for tomorrow. Cant wait to meet my little girl

The Target tanks are perfect - much easier to do the tank in the beginning anyway (and they are more "flexible" in the cup size department).  Honestly, I still just wear a nursing tank everyday instead of a bra!
