S/O Pedicure... WTF?

so, i go to the nail salon yesterday, where i have been going since i was first pregnant. the ppl are nice. its a young kid and his wife that own it and they are the only ones that work there. so, first when i go.. he says to me "WOW youre really getting big, huh"... so i look at him and im like "well, im 31 weeks now, that happens" (in a sarcastic tone) so hes like "well, we cant massage ur feet for you AT ALL during your pedicure"... im like "uh, huh- excuse me, thats the point"... "well you can go into labor"... im like " ok, seriously, the odds of that happening are like not good and also, if i go into labor 9 weeks early, she was MEANT to be here!!"....

soooo.. this lady that was letting her nails dry turns around and goes "when are you due?" i say, "July 13".. "oh well, you DO look like youve dropped. I mean, i dont know you, but you do"...

uhhhhhh ok. thanks 'doc', for NOT helping! one, i have been carrying super low this whole time. and two- youre right you DONT know me...

sooo.. the whole time im getting a pedi- the husband keeps telling the wife over and over from across the room "hun, do NOT rub her feet, i mean it, dont"

I was soo mad!! paid $25 for it and basically got to soak my feet and get my toe-nails painted! I really really like how they do my finger nails ( i get pink n white acrylic on my actual nails) but looks like i am going to be lookin for a new place til this pregnancy is over. booooo

ok- done whining.

  • That's annoying but I guess they just don't want any liability.

  • Its called covering their asses. They dont want to be liable if you do go into pre term labor.

i agree that the side convos were a lil much,  (especially the nosey woman) but i can totally see their point... they don't want to be responsible for it and are protecting their business!

it's unfortunate though that they still charged you full price! i would have asked for a reduced rate since you only got half! haha

  • thats annoying. i was in a wedding this time last year and the MOH was 38 weeks pregnant, when we went in for our mani and pedi's, the salon wouldn't let the MOH have the back massager on for the same reason.

There are pressure points on your feet and calves that can cause uterine contractions. A lot of nail salons will not massage pregnant womens feet or legs during a pedicure.

  • oh no i would've hurt people!!!  Your totally right that's the whole reason i go get pedi's right now ~ to get my feet massaged!!  I heard there are some pressure points that can induce labor, but I would think that is your call to make as to whether or not your okay with it. If anything they should just make you sign something stating that you won't hold them responsible for whatever happens from massaging your feet for 5 minutes if they're that freaked out by it.
  • There's a reflexology point in the ankle that can, if stimulated correctly, bring on preterm labor.

The place I get pedicures does prenatal massage as well, and they just avoid massaging my ankles.

this... would be a good idea!!!!

  • I SO would not have paid $25 for that!  I would have said, well then you can give me the pregnant lady discount, $10 for a foot soak and painted nails!  Sorry!!  FWIW, when I was pregnant with my twins, we tried SEVERAL times towards the end to go into labor with foot rubbing, and it never worked for me!

lol, I would have been like F-You, I'm 38 weeks pg...you're letting me have the damn back massager!

  • Shoot...I would have gone somewhere else when he first said no rubbing...I would have been like, "nevermind, I'll go somewhere else.."  straight to their face...I bet they would have rubbed your feet then!!! They want the $$$ ...that would have TOTALLY pissed me off!!! It's really hard to find good nail places...I finally found one that I LOVE!!! I have gone there for the past 2 years...it's clean, the people are nice...I go to the same girl everytime for my fills.  But I let anyone do my pedicures, since my lady is too gentle on the feet.

  • Like PPs said, it's a pressure point in the ankle. They can rub your feet, but don't let them rub your ankles- specifically your Achille's tendon.

This.  Clearly, they should know their business a little better.  I mean, better safe than sorry, but they can massage if done properly.

I have never heard of a foot massage causing labor...my nail tech gives me a foot massage every week...is it really something that could be a problem?
  • I'm going to get my toes done on Friday, and I WISH someone would tell me they are not going to massage my feet.........  I will raise holy H*** in that place!  And I hope a foot massage does make me go into labor cause I am sooooooooooooooo ready!  Indifferent
  • there's no way i would have paid 25 (especially with a tip on top of that) - did you tell them you'd gladly pay 15 for a foot soak you could have done at home?
  • I would've left and went somewhere else :(  They suck!
