DS doesn't like sleeping in crib

Please help if you can. My DS does not seem to like his crib, he will sleep in there only after we've rocked him for a long time and he is fully asleep. After night feedings, I will do this, he is asleep and then I try to put him in the crib-he cries and wakes up. Anyone have suggestions as to what to do? The whole process normally takes anywhere from 1 hour  to almost 2 hours. I am really tired (as we all are) and just don't know what to do about this.

Re: DS doesn't like sleeping in crib

  • Our DS used to do the same thing, and we are now running into this problem with DD. The only advice I have is to be consistent. With DS, we consistently put him in his crib every night, even though he waked. Eventually, he associated the crib with sleep, and would sleep.

Today, I am beginning this proces with DD. It took me an hour and a half to get her to sleep this morning (not in her bouncey chair or swing), but she is finally asleep in her crib.

  • where was he sleeping before the crib?  how long has this been going on?
  • I wish I could help but unfortunatly I am going through the same issue and I have been since we've started putting him in his crib. I've heard that wedges under the mattress will help. I have not tried it yet. I understand what your going through GL. Please let me know if you find anything that helps.

  • It sounds like it's not the crib that's the issue, it's the fact that he relies on you to fall asleep. Once he learns to fall asleep on his own you won't have any more issues. We made the same mistakes with our oldest & I used to spend over an hour getting him to sleep every night only to have him wake the minute his head hit the mattress. With my second I started putting him down drowsy while he was about 2 1/2 mos & he learned to fall asleep on his own. I can put him in his crib for naps/ bedtime & he will go off to sleep within 5 minutes with minimal or no fussing at all! My only suggestion is to read the this book: Sleeping Through the Night' by Jodi Mindell. It helped soooo much when we had this problem with C! HTH

  • Thanks for the suggestions. He was sleeping in the pack-n-play, but has been in the crib for almost 2 months. He used to STTN, but then stopped-I thought it was the 4 mo. wakeful, I guess it could still be going on. I don't know.
  • do/did you swaddle him?  he might be big, but you could try that.  paci?  sound machine?
