Babies on the Brain

IUI-ers come in, please

Had my first IUI done yesterday. ?Triggered at 1030pm Sunday night, which was 36 hours before IUI was scheduled.

After the IUI yesterday morning, I got home I used an OPK and it was negative around 1pm. ?

Used another last night and it was positive. ?If I had my IUI done at 1030am and didn't O till sometime overnight, are we out of luck?

I googled it and it seems like I'm reading washed sperm live 12-24 hours at most. ?I'm worried we just wasted a ton of money because my body didn't cooperate with the trigger shot. ?

Anyone? ?Help? Sorry if it's convoluted.

ETA: I should add that my temp rise isn't enough to warrant confidence of ovulation yesterday...

  • I always thought you had to trigger when you got a positive opk?  I have never done the trigger shot though.

Not sure what direction we are headed. Either way, I am up for the ride.

  • Per this RE, they trigger based on size of follicle, not on OPK. ?He said that my OPK's have traditionally not done much good since I don't see a positive till the day of O normally.
  • Oh I forgot to add, GL dear!

Ahhh I see.  I too normally see my positive the day of ovulation as well.  Good thing to know!

  • The trigger takes 36-40 hours to make the egg pop off. HTH.
  • Danse, I know that the typical trigger is about 36 hours for me until I get my first +OPK.

However, if it had happened between 36-40 hours after trigger, I wouldn't have gotten a negative OPK at 1pm, which was about 40 hours. ?So I think that the trigger didn't actually make me O till either late last night/overnight or possibly even today. ?I'm just wondering if the sperm would still be alive and swimming this long post-wash.

    This is all very confusing.?

  • I was getting positive OPKs after trigger. ?I thought it was the actual trigger (HCG) causing the positive result, as OPKs are not very specific and can turn positive with HCG instead of LH.

ETA: Also, your negative result might be because it takes a while for HCG to make it to your urine.?
