Okay, apparently A's off the bottle as of tonight and I need to gather a bit more advice and info on the double as I assumed I had at least another week before that happened.
The recommendation is 16ozs at least a day but do you give her cups/sippies at certain times a day like you did with a bottle/nursing? Or do you let her sip here and there throughout the day? Since DD's used to drinking 3 times a day and a certain amount, should I just keep on in that manner but just give a cup instead so that she takes the rec'd amount?
Re: Milk: In what increments over a day?
DD gets milk right when she gets up in the morning, after her AM nap (if she takes one), after he PM nap, and before she goes to bed (but not before teeth brushing). The rest of the day she gets water whenever she wants and right after meals or snacks.
The amount of milk she takes at each 'offering' is pretty variable but I keep an eye on it my guess would be it's usually somewhere between 15 and 20 ozs a day. At her one year appt the pedi was like, "No more than 24 ozs. daily" but didn't mention a lower limit. So, especially since, DD tends to eat a lot of dairy anyway I've just been going with it.
ETA: The idea behind not offering her milk right before meals is to make sure she doesn't fill up on milk and gets enough solids. And the idea behind offering her milk when she gets up (instead of right before she goes to sleep) is to make sure she doesn't nap with milk on her teeth.
I like this schedule. But what do you do for first thing in the morning? Do you just go right to breakfast? I'm worried because Alaina is used to having a bottle immediately upon wakening at 6am (and breakfast is at 7). I'll be dead on my feet trying ot feed that baby at 6am with a spoon lol.
This is what I'm doing right now:
5 oz. in sippy when she gets up. She is free to drink that while I make her breakfast and finish with her meal.
5 oz. in sippy when she wake from nap. Her nap is usually from (give or take) 11:30-1:30 (ish). She is given a snack also.
6 oz. in sippy before bed. 7:30 start the bedtime routine: put away toys, read, into PJ's, milk, rock for a few, bed. I NEED to get teeth brushing in, though.
HTH. I'm thinking I might start giving sippy #2 and 3 with lunch and dinner, though. However, will she be able to "get it" that it's time for bed without the milk?!
DD is still partially on bottles. She refuses to drink much out of a sippy and DH and I figure we'll give it some more time..
So she gets an 8oz bottle w/ breakfast (drinks 1/2 before and 1/2 sometime w/in the next hour).
An 8 oz sippy throughout the day that she asks for an sips on whenever. Mostly w/ lunch and snack though.
An 8 oz bottle after dinner/before bed.
At this point we don't worry about recommended amount since we know about what she'll drink in a day. We just refill the bottle/sippy as needed. Sometimes she drinks it all, sometimes just a little..
