ruptured ear drum?

So I have cold and either i had an ear infection or something, but i woke up with horrible pain in my right ear the other night and took some tylenol and put a heating pad on. pain is gone now but i feel like i am stuck underwater in that ear. How long til a ruptured ear drum (if thats what happened) heals itself. Anyone experience this before?

p.s. this is was fri night and during the day fri i was at my fam dr and she checked me out and said everything was fine, lungs, nose, ears and all.

This happened to one of my friends and it took about 6-8 weeks before it went back to normal. She had a lot of issues while flying for a few months too.

dang it all, i was hoping it would be better by this weekend for my shower but i guess I will just have to tell everyone to speak up b/c i hear like an 80 yr old woman! lol

I think if it's already ruptured you wouldn't have that kind of pressure though - I think she felt the pressure, then it released and it was just intense pain for a while. She was on percaset for it for at least a week.

It just doesn't make sense that i had such horrible pain that night and then all of sudden everything sounds underwater in that ear. Ohh well I guess! I might call the dr tomorrow and see what she says about it now.

I had this happen and it turned out to be a severe ear infection with no rupture.
