Questions about GBS Test ...(mayve TMI)

I know this has been asked before but I can't seem to find the post...sorry if this is a repeat....

About when do they usually do the GBS test?

What exactly is done? I've heard some different things...some say it's like an internal, some say it's just a swab of the area, and some say that it involves the butt? Does this differ by doctor? Perhaps I should call the office to check...

Not that I can avoid any of this but I'd like to prepare myself as best I can as I tend to be a bit shy and get overwhelmed easily. Embarrassed I guess I won't be able to preseve much modesty when it comes time to give birth so I should just get used to it...TIA

    Mine was done at 36 wks. It was just a swab and was only the vag. Although, different OB's do both vag and rear. It was just a quick swipe of a q tip. that's about it.

    Towards the end of the pregnancy when they start doing internal exams.  It's just a swab while they are doing the internal.

    My doc tested for it at 37 weeks the 1st time. It was a butt swab. I tested negative then.


    This time around it showed up in my urine test at 8 weeks so I'm automatically assumed to have it at the time of delivery so they won't bother doing the 37 week test.

    I'd just call your doctor's office and speak to the nurse.  That way you know what your doctor's office does.  I honestly don't remember what they did for mine.

    My OB does it at 36 weeks and again at 40 weeks if you haven't delivered (I think it was 40 weeks from my last pregnancy). They swab your vagina and then swab your anus with a different swab. It's really nothing..you can barely feel it!?

    35-37 weeks is usually when it is performed. It is just a quick swipe of both areas. It wasn't bad at all, nothing like an internal or a pap smear.

    I had mine at 35 weeks.

    Really, it's no big deal. They swab the inside of your vag, just like a pap smear, run it out and down over your rear, just like wiping yourself (front to back)! They do not go in the out door, if that's what you're worried about...

    36 weeks at my 2nd internal. After she was done with the internal she took a long q-tip swab and swabbed from my vag to my butt. Very fast and you don?t even know it's being done

    dont even worry about it....wait till delivery youll be amazed how all your modisty goes out the window~!! Every Tom *** and Harry sees everything!

    They just swab your crotch then sweep around the butt hole....dont even know it!

    Thanks! I guess that makes me feel a little bit better. Like I said I can't avoid it so I prob shouldn't stress about it either.

    Mine was the same as this...pretty painless, just a bit uncomfortable for me.?

    I had mine done yesterday because my Dr.'s are worried I'm going to deliver early. ?I will have it done again if I make it to 37 weeks.

    Its painless. ?They swab your vag and outside of your bum to see if you have strep b.
