when AF came back...(if it took a while to get yours back)

I am still waiting for AF to come back but since dropping to 2 nursings I have started having some pretty "good" menstrual like cramps for a while... my doc told me to expect the mother of all periods after so much time without one... what was your experience if yours did not come back right away?

  • It was awful, I really wondered if there was something wrong because I bleed so much!

that's what i was afraid of... ugh. Maybe I need to start sleeping rubber pants just in case?! LOL

  • I did not get AF until almost a month after weaning, which was 3 weeks ago.  I thought I was pregnant because I was nauseous and having cramps.........really I was praying I was getting AF.  I even took a pregnancy test a few days before AF arrived.  Needless to say she surprised me.  I went to the bathroom and there she was!  My cramps were all the week before.  Period was surprising light and only lasted a few days!  I always heard they were bad the first time, but mine was not at all and I barely had any cramping during my period.  If you are still nursing you may not get one for awhile.  I exclusively pumped and was down to 2 pumping sessions, then 1 the last month of pumping and AF still didn't come.  Good Luck!

  • Oh, I forgot to tell you that I always had cramping and thought my period was coming for that whole year.

Mine came back last week and it was quite heavy -- 2 days of spotting first (which isn't normal to me), and then 5 days of AF.  I had cramps during the spotting and the first 2 days of AF.  Honestly I don't think it was heavy at all compared to what it used to be, but I just wasn't used to it anymore!  That's really odd to me that your doc would say that since it's not like it's been building up this whole time waiting to be released. ;)

I got mine back around the time DS was completely weaned.  It was as heavy or lighter than it was before and it only lasted 4 days.  I may have been a little crampier than before but it wasn't bad.

  • Mine didn't come back until 10mo. pp, a full month after I fully stopped nursing (I weaned slowly). I had 2 AFs before getting PG again.. both were much lighter and much less painful then pre-PG!! Pre-pg I was on prescription pain meds for the cramps + BCP... after I barely had to take an advil. It was soooooo nice!

  • I've only had one pp AF - came 3 days before DD's birthday, and it was really light  - like it had been when I was on the pill.  Cramps weren't bad either.
  • I just got mine back last week. I had stopped nursing just a few days before.?

It wasn't that bad. Really only slightly heavier than before pregnancy. My old periods used to be heavy for one day adn then pretty light for 3-4 more days. This one was heavy for 2-3 days and then medium for a couple, then nothing. Definitely not as bad as I was expecting!?

ETA: I had zero cramping either, which was really odd to me b/c I always had HORRIBLE cramping. ?

  • Mine was a little heavier than usual but not awful. ?Bu it did take a LONG time. ?The 2nd one was 50+ days later. ?I'm only now on my 4th cycle and things are starting to get to a more normal state.?
