Hospital Bag Question

I am planning on BFing, do I need to bring some BFing pads with or with the hospital give me some to use, or since my milk won't be in, I really won't be leaking?

Then in a non-hospital bag question....if you had a c-section, how long do you have to wear the granny panties for?  I bought a few pairs, but I know I'm not going to be doing laundry all the time, but at the same time, I don't want to buy a lot, if I only have to wear them for a week after I'm home.

Sorry, I'm just trying to make sure I'm ready.  I can't believe it's almost time now!!!

Re: Hospital Bag Question

  • I had a c/s and still bleed for 5 weeks. So the granny panties were necessary. And HUGE pads!

  • I brought my boob pads so I never asked if they had any but I'm sure they do. You will need them though. I wore the disposable granny panties that the hospital provided and went back to my own pretty quick, although they were the undies that I wore during my pg so they weren't skimpy. I bleed for a long time but it wasn't bad so granny panties weren't really nec. If you have a few alreday you might be ok. You can always get more.
  • the hospital will have everything you need for bf'ing so I wouldnt worry about the pads until you get home.

I bled for about 4 wks or so but the heavy bleeding was almost done with by the end of week one or so.  I have about 4 bags of pads in the bathroom that I didn't even touch.  Everyone is different so unfortunately you'll just have to see how it goes for you.

  • I brought my own breast pads, I didn't want to have to wait around for them.  The other pads we waiting for me in the bathroom in the L&D suite, those things were everywhere.  Granny panties, 6 weeks I am sorry to say for me.  no c/s but i think that's pretty standard.
  • i was still spotting at my 6w PP appt with my DS - but didn't need huge panties by then- but i also did not have a c/s that time - so not sure how my regular undies would feel if they would rub, etc.

i got 2 packs of the huge ugly hanes briefs - so i think i have 8 of them - to use after my c/s this time.  Between that and the mesh undies i plan to snag from the hospital - i think i should be OK.

you don't really need huge panties b/c of blood- just b/c of where the incision will hit your other undies.  I wore regular underwear with my vag delivery.

my hospital provided me with breast pads.

  • I only wore them for 5 days w/Harmon but I am expecting 2x the drama this time.  I did spot though for 8 wks Crying but all out bleeding was real brief.

Also you will be doing laundry all the time.  I'm so not joking but NB pee through everything all day and night long, spit up everywhere, etc. etc.  If you can have DH or a friend help you get it!

I would bring all your BF basics, especially your pump!  I didn't and will always regret that b/c Harmon was so tiny 4 1/2 lbs he just couldn't latch right.  I also would bring BF pads although I doubt you will need them b/c milk most of the time doesn't come in by that point.  Also don't forget that lanolin creme!!!  I loved the Medela one, use it before and after for sure Smile  My hospital didn't have most of this stuff (you can always call yours and see).
