I have a friend named Shaun, but I think growing up she always wished she had a more feminine name. She is really cool, so I think the name totally works for a girl.
i've met a couple of female shawns. one is my friend's aunt whose kids i babysat and she is probably around 40 now so i always thought it was a little odd for someone her age to have a more masculine name like that. it's nms, though.

First Shawn I ever met was a girl. Then I didn't meet any others until middle school when I met a Sean. To me Shawn is a girl's name and Sean/Shaun is a boys name. But that's because that's what I saw growing up.
I have seen Shawn and Shaun as girls names. nms but not terrible either.

I guess I'm very old fashioned and not with current trends, but don't like it sa a girl's name. It is the Irish form of John and to my knowledge people do not name their daughters John.

I strongly prefer it for boys, but I know a really amazing woman who's a Shaun and she's over 40. If I don't think about her though, it sounds really masculine.
Re: What about Sean/Shawn/Shaun as unisex?
i like it, but i do like most boy names for girls.

Not sure where to go from here.
I went to college with a guy named Sean.. pronounced SEEN. His brother was Shawn and they were not twins. Yea, that was confusing.
I've always thought of the name as a boy's name.
That's just wrong.
Nothing. It's a boy's name which is sometimes given to girls. But it is NOT a unisex name.
Shawn Johnson the gymnist pulls it off...
what about Shayne for a girl? I think that is cute too
I like it.
Shaun Weatherly was Miss Universe. Pretty freaking feminine.
