I am getting ready to go back to work and my husband and I are have difficulity agreeing on what is acceptable with regards to childcare. I have some question that keep coming up. I know that it will be different depending on where you live but I wanted to get a general idea.
1.How much does it cost/day....is there a difference for new born and toddler?
2.Is food provided?
3. If for some reason your LO doesn't go do you still have to pay (for example sick or weather)?
4. How many kids are there there?
Thanks so much!
Re: Questions a/b childcare
2.Is food provided? I have an infant so no, but food is provided for older children
3. If for some reason your LO doesn't go do you still have to pay (for example sick or weather)? yep
4. How many kids are there there? not sure the total for the center but there are 8 in my child's infant class
It ends up being $70.day, although I pay on a monthly basis. ?Toddlers are less, about $65/day. ?Preschoolers work out to be around $60/day.
2. ?Once they are able to eat table food, it is breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks are provided.
3. ?Yes - we pay even if we are on vacation. ?
4. ?There about 150 kids altogether - 24 are infants, 24 are toddlers.?
1. We pay $120 a week. It goes down in $10 increments as the child gets older.
2. Yes, I BF, but even formula is provided!
3. We still have to pay, but we get a 1/2 off vacation week.
4. Right now there are 9 infants with 2 adults in the room. Rarely are all of them there at the same time. There are probably close 100 kids altogether.
1. $1,200 per month. I forget when it starts going-down and by how much.
2. For an extra $10.00 per month they'll provide lunch and an afternoon snack.
3. Our center has a 2-week vacation credit. You need to use it during July or August. When we searched I didn't find many other centers that have this type of policy. No "refunds" for illness or weather though.
4. Maximum of 7 infants in the infant room (2 teachers).
DD is currently with a sitter/nanny who watches her out of her home. She's transitioning into a preschool next month. I'll answer for both...
1. Cost: Current sitter charges $200/week, so $40/day. She started watching DD when she was 1, but she had been watching another boy before who was an infant, and she charged the same price.
The preschool will be around $720/month. So it works out to around $35/day. That is for full-day care (school hours + extended care) 5 days/week -- they also do school hours only, or 3 or 4 days a week, and obviously that's cheaper. The preschool starts at age 2, and the rate stays the same all the way through (till kindergarten).
2. Food is not provided at either place.
3. We pay our current sitter whether or not DD is there. We probably could've negotiated this, but I don't want her worrying about losing income because we go on vacation or her kids are sick or whatever.
Her preschool will be the same, although during the summer, we can pay weekly or pull her out entirely, if we plan to take an extended vacation.
4. At her current sitter, she's the only baby. Her sitter watches her own school-age boys (ages 8 and 11) and another 9-year-old after school.
Her preschool has three classes total, with 15-20 kids per class. (Not all kids go full-time.)
Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)
1. $28.50/day ($3/hour x 9.5 hours)
2. Yes (formula was, too)
3. We get 10 sick/vacation days a year that we do not pay for. Once we use all of those up, we pay for the days he is not there.
4. In his room, there are five total.
2.Is food provided? Not for infants
3. If for some reason your LO doesn't go do you still have to pay (for example sick or weather)? If DD is out a whole week, we only have to pay half. They like to have 2 weeks notice but obviously if she is sick, there is no notice. The number of weeks you can take off at the 'half-price' rate is unlimited (I didn't find this at any other daycare I looked at)
4. How many kids are there there? It's a center daycare - there are 2 infant rooms each with 8 babies (though there never seem to be all 8 there)
1. Ours costs $263/week at a center. There is no difference btwn infants and toddlers. Our cost reduction occurs when they enter the 2 yr room.
2. Breakfast, snacks & milk are provided. Lunch is not.
3. Yes
4. Our ratio is 3:1; each infant room has 6 infants and 2 teachers. I think the Toddler room is 4:1, so there are 8 tods.
2.Is food provided? just snacks and water....2 snacks a day
3. If for some reason your LO doesn't go do you still have to pay (for example sick or weather)? not sure about the weather but if he is sick he can make up a day the next week free of charge (because he is parttime)
4. How many kids are there there? he is in the 18-30 month room and the ratio is 7:1
1.How much does it cost/day....is there a difference for new born and toddler? The infant program costs more for me and then goes down when they move to the toddler program and again in the pre-school program. I get a 10% corp discount since my company is signed up for it so make sure to ask about that and also about a sibling discount. My center gives a 10% discount to the less expensive sibling you can only use 1 discount at a time but I get 10% off both girls through work). My older DD is in hte preschool program and with my discount it is, $220 a week. My younger DD is in the Infant/Busy Baby program and with the discount it is $309 a week. So I pay $529 a week for both. My younger DD will move to the Toddler program in the late summer/early fall and my rate will go down about $40.
2.Is food provided? yes, they provide formula, baby food and all table food, snacks, drinks, etc.
3. If for some reason your LO doesn't go do you still have to pay (for example sick or weather)? yes. Afetr 6 months of going there you get a week free for vacation each year plus if you are going to be out for a second week that year, you only pay a $50 holding fee vs the whole weeks rate which is great. Sick days, vacations, etc, you still pay though.
4. How many kids are there there? Not really sure. My younger DD's room has around 20 infants ages 6 weeks to 18 months but the Busy Babies spend most of the day in a different room and they have typically 4 -6 kids with 1-2 teachers (4:1 ratio). I think the toddler rooms have 15-18 kids with 2 teachers and the preschool room as around 20 kids with 2 teachers. Not sure about the older preschool rooms or the pre-K and school age rooms.
1. About $35 a day. Newborns/infants are more expensive. The price decreases as the child gets older and moves up to a different program.
2. Parents of infants have to bring their own formula/food. For toddlers, we have to bring lunch, but 2 snacks a day are provided.
3. We pay a monthly rate, which does not change if their are holidays/sick days/vacation/etc.
4. DS is in a class of 7 with 2 caregivers.
