When is their FIRST dentist appt?

I have heard a wide range, from 1 yr to 3 yrs. What about your DC's first?

I sort of worried, bc the tops of DS's (4) teeth are tinted gray a bit (while the bottoms of the teeth are bright white), but I've called several pediatric dentists and they say that's normal tooth development... but I think I might make an appt anywho. He is going to freak the fluke out though.....  sigh

    my dentist said 3 unless you have problems, but Ive heard other people say 1. DS isnt having any issues so Im not taking him until 3.

    My dentist said 3.  Before that they won't sit still in the chair so he said it would be more of an introduction appointment.

    All the parenting magazines said 1. So I called a few dentists, but no one wanted to see her until 3.

    I am taking DS next month. He has a stain on his front tooth that I want to have them look at. It is tiny but can still be noticed. He also has what seems like an underbite. They said they will look at it but they can't do anything for the bite until he is older. They also said that he will probably grow out of it.

    Our dentist told us 3 for little boys, that its almost impossible to get them to sit still before that.

    My boss who is our dentist says not until DS is 3 years old, unless the parent is concerned.  You are concerned so I would take in your son.  Just make sure the dentist you are taking him to has great bedside manner and it shouldn't be too bad.  HTH

    AAP recommends at one year or by first teeth.

    I just made his appt. And the dentist I spoke with said they recommend the firs visit 6 mts after first tooth comes in. This should be F-U-N!

    Interesting how there is such a range of ages here.?

    My dentist (not a pediatric one though) said to bring her in during my visits when she's around 1.5 - 2. That way she can sit in a chair and watch me get my teeth cleaned and see what's going on. ?Then they usually start children visits between 2-3. ??
