  • i like it, but i do like most boy names for girls.

  • I definitely vote boys only, even though I know an adult female Shawn who's wonderful.

  • I think boys only.  The only girl I've heard of named Shawn is that Olympic gymnast.
  • Seana would work. I know a lady with that name. But Sean for a girl is nms.

  • I have a friend named Shaun, but I think growing up she always wished she had a more feminine name.  She is really cool, so I think the name totally works for a girl.
  • It's really a matter of opinion, right? I only like them for boys, and I only like it spelled Sean. I guess for a girl Shawn would be better.

i've met a couple of female shawns. one is my friend's aunt whose kids i babysat and she is probably around 40 now so i always thought it was a little odd for someone her age to have a more masculine name like that. it's nms, though.

  • First Shawn I ever met was a girl.  Then I didn't meet any others until middle school when I met a Sean.  To me Shawn is a girl's name and Sean/Shaun is a boys name.  But that's because that's what I saw growing up.
  • my dr's (female) name is Shawn, it confuses a lot of people

  • I don't mind the whole boys names for girls thing but I am not too crazy about Shawn as unisex.

I guess I'm very old fashioned and not with current trends, but don't like it sa a girl's name.  It is the Irish form of John and to my knowledge people do not name their daughters John.

  • I went to college with a guy named Sean.. pronounced SEEN.  His brother was Shawn and they were not twins.  Yea, that was confusing.

I've always thought of the name as a boy's name.

Nothing.  It's a boy's name which is sometimes given to girls.  But it is NOT a unisex name.

  • I like it as a boy's name.
  • Shawn Johnson the gymnist pulls it off...

what about Shayne for a girl?  I think that is cute too :)

  • I strongly prefer it for boys, but I know a really amazing woman who's a Shaun and she's over 40.  If I don't think about her though, it sounds really masculine.
  • How about Shawna?
  • I like it.

Shaun Weatherly was Miss Universe. Pretty freaking feminine.
