If your child has hit the maximum height/weight limit for RF provided by the car seat manufacturer? Those guidelines are obviously provided for a reason...ie: safety and if your child exceeds the allowable max, it is no longer safe to keep your child RF.
Yes, I would have liked to keep DS RF longer too, but we switched him on the weekend because he hit the max height allowance for RF.
THere are some people that don't care at all (oh, i'll just keep DC rear facing as long as I like), some that know about the weight limit, but are oblivious to the fact that there is also a height limit.
Come on people...read your car seat manual!
Re: Why on earth would you keep your DC RF...
Can I ask what seat you have and how tall your DS is? Because I have not heard of a 15 month old growing out of the RF limits...so he must be quite tall? Or your seat has a lower limit?
Ditto.
What seat do you have? I am fairly certain that you (unless your kid is some giant) are mistaken.
DS is actually on the shorter side, he was always in the 25th percentile for height up to now (not sure what he is now since he went through a growth spurt).
We have the Britax Roundabout, which allows up to 30 inches for RF. I got the Roundabout after reading all the amazing reviews here and in Baby Bargains, but now I am kind of regretting it. I wasn't planning on turning DS FF so soon.
DS was 28.5 inches at his 12 mo appointment and 31 inches at his 15 month appointment, so we turned him as soon as we found out that he surpassed the height for RF.

Holy crap! That doesn't seem right! Did you measure his seated shoulder height as well?
Can I please just tell you I was about .2 inches away from buying the Roundabout. Only my own vanity stopped me...I didn't like the color they had in the store....
DD is 30 inches and still rf'ing in her Roundabout and Marathon. She is not even close to being too tall for rf'ing.
Your Roundabout is different that the American Roundabout then. Our Roundabout is rf'ing to 33lbs (although the new one RFs to 35lbs) and 40 inches.
She lives in Canada, they have different car seat safety laws than we do in the states. In fact, if you check out the link to Britax Canada that she posted, she's right. 30in is the RF height limit.

I would have know this if I would have noticed where she was at when I first read the post. As soon as I clicked on her link.... I already figured out what was going on. :-)
Sorry, that does stink. I remember a similar post by another Canadian nestie. Sorry about my first post too. I didn't realize were you were located until I clicked on your link. :-(
I apologize.
kidding! (sorta)
