Potty training - what age?

When did you first start attempting to potty train? I think my DS is finally ready because he finally admits when he is having a BM lol. He used to lie about it! I've heard that boys are much harder to train. Is this true??

Re: Potty training - what age?

  • I started introducing the potty at about 18 months. Then started using it consistently at 21-22 months. My son was completely potty trained by the time he was 2. My son was very easy to train, I got very lucky:)

  • We started around 20 months.
  • Around 12 mos, a friend lent us their potty ring so we'd put her on it before bath.

She started peeing while sitting there at 13 mos.

Nowadays, she has about 2 wet diapers a day.

  • I started at 16 months and DD was doing great but then DD #2 came along at 18.5 months and potty training was put on hold.  DD #1 just turned 2 and I am now thinking about doing a 3 day thing where we stay home all day and do potty training...I am so sick of toddler diapers.  The poop is so stinky!!!

I never pushed my DD, just followed her lead.  We brought out the potty at 2 when she showed interest.  She would be hot/cold for a long time.  She started sitting on hte potty more at school and would go a few times a week and stuff like that.  Back in Nov/Dec when DD was 2 1/2, we decided to try and encourage her to go more often and it backfired and she refused to sit on the potty.  In late Feb, she told us she was interested and she was fully trained within a few weeks - so I would say she was around 2 years 9 months when she was fully trained.
