I was told no by my co-workers.

  • Yes, root beer is fine.

Did they specify as to why????  Caffeine?  Sugar?  Just curious, because I've never heard that one.

  • why?

i drink it all the time - it's caffeine free.

  • I'm guessing the only reason they say no is because there's caffeine. As long as you don't drink a crap load of caffeine everyday, I don't see why you can't drink a root beer.

I don't drink root beer, so if there isn't caffeine, I didn't know.

  • Are your co-workers doctors?   I say drink away.  (But I'm no doctor either.)   Seriously, it's fine though.
  • Root beer has no caffeine... you're safe.  Hell, you could probably go whole hog and drink a Pepsi and be ok!  I'm glad your co-workers know what they're talking about.

...unless it's Barq's, which is my absolute favorite.   Yum.

  • just double checking girls...thank you....it's because they said soda is bad for me.

  • Only if you want your baby to come out smellng like A & W
  • I drink A&W root beer! Caffine free! :)
  • Not all root beer has caffeine and even if it did it's still ok to have some caffeine each day
  • If you are trying to avoid caffeine, I think Barqs is the only one with caffeine.  The rest should be ok.

Well, it's not good for you.  Please don't spend your whole pregnancy listening to these co-workers, you'll be so miserable.

This. It's certainly not good for you or at all healthy, but if you're a soda drinker before BFP, I'm not sure why you'd stop when you are pregnant, assuming you want to keep it to caffeine free which it is and doesn't sound like that was their issue with it. There are A LOT of things people eat that aren't good for you.

  • Because soda is bad for you???

When you said that, I clicked on your profile because I was sure you were 17 or something (no offense to young moms out there, but they just may be more naive) but you are 37!  You are a grown woman and can decide if you want a little sugar or not.

Next time they tell you something is bad for you, tell 'em where to stick it!

  • I would be so riled up if my co-workers dared to try to me what I could and could not eat. I am perfectly capable of deciding that for myself, thankyouverymuch.

Root beer is not good for you but one can is harmless nonetheless.

I agree with you that this is pretty silly but there is a big difference in the sugar in sodas than say table sugar or fruit.  I know in many (not sure about root beer, I never drank or liked that) it's high fructose corn syrup...which really is NOT good for you.

Agreed, but neither are chips, ice cream, mac&cheese, etc all of the other things we pregnant women occasionally indulge in.  As long as it is in moderation, one soda per day is not going to hurt her or her baby (assuming of course she doesn't have GD).  And it should be a decision she makes for herself, not because pushy, nosy health food police coworkers scolded her like a child.

  • I heart root beer-especially since I have been pg.  But then everytime I drink it I wanna add ice-cream to it.  I had a float Saturday night and two rootbeers on Sunday....guess my baby will have three heads Surprise

Definitely :) But you can find all of those things you listed w/out HFCS (and sodas too actually ;)

Soda is not good for you, whether PG or not. It is full of sugar and has no nutritional value, but it is totally up to you and how healthy you want to be.?

  • I can't believe this girl is not getting flamed...not trying to provoke, just seems strange..

I had two root beers yesterday. Double super powers for LO!

  • Moderation!!!

I could not have gotten through the 1st tri without my ginger ale!  And, whoever brought up root beer float is sooooo in trouble!!!  Okay not really, bless you, I LOVE those and may have to have one this week!!!

    YUMMY!

  • You can drink anything you want? They have caffeine free root beer too?
  • Even if it was bad for you, if anyone ever told me what I could or couldn't eat/drink I'd tell them to stfu. It's none of their damned business, unless you're smoking a crack pipe in front of them.
