Nursing at the Detroit Zoo?

We are planning on going to the zoo today but I'm getting kind of nervous about where I'm going to nurse DS.  I guess I could just sit on a bench and use a nursing cover but that makes me a bit uncomfortable.  Anyone have any recommendations?

  • I absolutely loved my nursing cover!  I can't think of anywhere, off the top of my head, that would be best to nurse at.  I'd just try to find a bench or table that's not near a crowded area.  Honestly, if you are using the cover, most people probably won't even know or pay attention to what you're doing.  I was really self conscious in the beginning but soon realized that most people don't even notice.  :)  Hope you have a good time!

  • I just went to the zoo for the first time since I was a kid and brought my 15 month old.  We walked the whole park and though I wasn't looking specifically for a spot to nurse I do remember there being many many different open spots for sitting down to eat, ect.  So there may be other less obvious spots but I would just go find a table away from others and nurse there.  Like the other posts said........just use a cover and people won't even know what your doing.  And if they do who cares.......you'll be far enough away they won't see anything.

Enjoy yourself.......my son and I had a blast!!

  • I might use a sling instead of a "cover."  Honestly, when you just hold your baby with a nursing top on, or use a sling, nobody can see ANYTHING, and most people assume that you're holding a sleeping baby (people come up to me all the time and say, "Awwww, a sleeping baby, how sweet!")...but when you use a nursing cover, to me, it screams, "HEY! I'M NURSING!! DON'T LOOK!"    Just my opinion!  In my experience, the zoo is very nursing friendly, by the way.
  • I nursed my DD last year at the Zoo, and surprisingly it wasn't too bad.  I had a cover, plus I put the stroller right in front of me, to help hide the fact I was nursing.  There are many spots within the park which doesn't have heavy traffic.  You can do it!  Good luck
