i need suggestions, ladies.
my friend's grad party from law school is this weekend. want to get her something small. she went back to school after working for years, so this isn't her first foray into the "real" world. and she already has a job lined up.
help?
Re: law school grad gift?
I got my DH a nice, leather bound copy of Black's Law Dictionary with his name engraved on it. If you don't know, it's a very common resource guide for attorneys and I thought it would help build his library for his office.
My friend gave me a cute business card holder for my desk and I loved it!
A frame for her desk is always nice, or a wrap that she can leave in the office (law firms are always too cold). A GC for a massage would be great too - sitting at a desk all day is hell on your back. Oh, or I have a pretty silver business card holder.
FWIW, I got a couple nice pens, and leather-bound copies of The Common Law and of Black's Law Dictionary. Never used them.
hehe.. I bought Black's Law Dictionary the 1st day of law school and have never opened it!
I agree with the spa certificate for bar study. Business card holders are nice, but grads may get several of them. Cute (not tacky) desk toys are an option if you can think of something creative that will have meaning for your friend (possibly something related to their other interests). Or, a gift card to a store that sells business suits.
Good luck!
A student loan payment?
(DH is in law school too, so the loans are very much on our minds!!)
Seriously though, I love the suggestion of the spa, mani/pedi, massage, etc. It's unlikely she's spent too much time or money on herself these last 3 years!
I have to agree with the ladies that suggested gift certs for massage/spa stuff as opposed to professional paraphenalia.
When I graduated I got so much "personalized" "business" stuff that I didn't need, including business card holders, paperweights, etc.... but a nice treat of a massage or spa treatment while studying for the bar exam would have been great. A law student already has a copy of black's law (or the firm will provide). My nice, leather bound, copy that I got as a gift has stayed on my shelf for 5 years....it's much quicker to go to online resources.
Great suggestion - I would have loved all of these things when studying for the bar!?
