I see people spell this word as "opps" all.the.time. It's not like it bothers me (okay, well, maybe on some level it does because I'm kind of a grammar/punc./spelling snob ), I just don't get why it's so often misspelled like that.
Probably just an easy-to-make typing error or something, but it's odd to me nontheless.
That's all.
Re: Misspelling "oops" - why so common???
lol!!
why don't people sound things out?
Hey now, I did admit in the OP that it must bother me
Any adult saying "supposebly." That's just crazy to me.
And agreed on all of these!
this reminds me of that episode on friends when joey learns that supposebly isn't a word, and he keeps using it in a sentence:
"they went to the zoo?" "supposebly..."
See, this is why it is confusing to me. Double vowels are a pretty hard rule to miss, right? That's why I'm thinking it may be an easy typing error to make or something...
Now I'm all scared to post anything without triple checking it so I don't put my foot in my mouth.
I know that I've made dumb mistakes in the past from not checking. And I do know that this is just a message board, but I notice this many other places as well. It definitely does not keep me up at night, though.
Ha! Ahh, Joey...
Thank you for saying what I was really thinking.
Ahhh....thank you!
This has been on my mind for a while. (Okay, I admit it, it's been bothering me
)
The misuse of or lack of use of the nominative case is way worse. Whenever I see "Her and me went to the store." I literally want to shout.
Augh!! She! He! They aren't such terrible pronouns!
I've never seen that one, but seriously LMAO!
There will never be another Joey.
OMG yes! The one that really gets me is when people use "she and I" etc. for everything because they assume they are being smart by using "and I." For example, captioning a picture with "My mom and I." Just because it comes second doesn't mean it's "I," people!
People who write, "My mom and I" in such cases are the same ones who will say, "Me and her went to the store."
My heart is happy now. I love fellow grammar nuts.
back to the OP, i'm pretty sure that when people spell 'oops' as 'opps', most of the time they are poking fun at the original mistake.?
In a similar vein, farther vs. further bugs me.
