I hold the pee for about two hours, make sure I don?t drink anything and as long as the pee is nice and yellow, then it?s good. I tried testing around 12, but that never got good results. I found 2-3pm to be a better time, and if it was really close to positive I tested again around 8 or 9pm so as not to miss my surge (learned that after missing it a time or two) Since I never o?d before cd 12 and usually on 12-14, I started testing on 12 and not 10 like the box said. HTH! GL!

  • Ok -thanks!!!!  But, I think it detects a surge 24 - 36 hours b4 the surge... SO if you O on CD 12, then you would have missed it.  I THINK that's the case atleast... Thanks though!!!

  • The very first few times I used OPKs I started early in the CDs just so I wouldn't miss O. After doing it several times and finding I usually O between CD 17-19, I don't start as early anymore. I used to test in the morning but now I test when I get home from work (between 4-6 pm) and it works for me.
  • I really like the cheapie OPK strips, because I didn't feel so bad using them.  I ended up starting them very soon after AF, because I feel like my O is somewhat unpredictable.  When I started seeing other signs of increased fertility, I went to testing twice a day.

    Good luck!

  • Hi, I have to use them due to taking prometrium for low progesterone so I have to know when 3 dpo is. I have used the cheap and expensive ones and if you didn't see my post before do not use the Answer Brand that you can test for 20 days with. I got like 6 positives in a row and then my dh even peed in a cup and he got a + with both lines being very dark and just as dark as each other....lol I also heard various others complain for the same reason about those. I resorted to getting the digital smiley face ones (CVS has them for 39.99 however Target sells them for 28.00 for 7 of them. I have been pregnant 3 times now with one child and all 3 times I ovulated between cd 16-18. Since my last pregnancy I have been getting positives on cd 13 (for the past 3 cycles). So, I would highly recommend to start using them at cd 10 if you have the typical 28 day cycle at least for the 1st month to not miss your day. As for the digital smiley faces they are the best because there is no speculating whether the lines are as dark as each other because you either see a circle or a circle with a smiley face in it. GL I hope this all of our cycles for an early 2010 babies!

  • Thanks ladies for all the imput!  I have 6 OPK's left...  I plan to start testing today, and maybe even twice a day - then when I'm out of them, I'll go to target to get the smiley face ones : )

GL to everyone!  Here's to this being the last time we have to use OPK's for a while!!!

  • I usually hold it for around 4 hours - I tend to pee after breakfast and then test around 1 or 2 in the afternoon (tested early today though). If it's around the days I expect to O and I still haven't gotten a + I will sometimes do it twice.
  • I tested first thing in the morning. My Dr. recommended that I start testing day 10 after my period until day 30 I know that's a lot, but my cycles were a little out of whack so i wanted to make sure! :)
