Ok, so my DH and I were told we are having a girl and we LOVE they name Jordyn Marie for her. However, my MIL and FIL have both told us that if we spell her name like that or name her Jordyn she will be made fun of, is this true?? Would she really be made fun of for the spelling?
Re: Spelling of a name....
I dont think she will get made fun of at all. There are alot of really bizarre spellings anymore for common names and I dont think just by putting a y in there that its all that bad.
She will have to spell her name for the rest of her life but you know what my name is Sally which seems simple enough and I have to spell it for most people still- and its really not that big of a deal to spell your name.
I don't think she will be made fun of. This next generation is going to be full of varied spellings so I think it will just be accepted.
I do however, prefer it spelled as Jordan.
She'll fit right in. Everyone these days seems to have a random y in their name.
And as much as I hate random ys, I don't mind Jordyn for some reason at all. Jordan is still better though.

My old boss named her dd Jordyn and she gets mad whenever anyone spells her name Jordan.
I think Jordan is more common than Jordyn.

I never made fun of my students with misspelled names or saw them made fun of (for that), but I did assume that their parents were marginally literate and that the child would need additional help with reading. And I was right a good 90 - 95% of the time. And piles upon piles of research has shown that a misspelled name is going to the bottom of the resume pile in many cases, deservedly or not.
There is SO MUCH THAT'S RIGHT with spelling a name correctly! Why? Why? Why would anyone not???
There are 3 Jordyn's (girls) that are at the school I work at and no one even notices. I wouldn't worry about the spelling...it's like Jordyn is the norm spelling for girls.
