Those who pump one side while feeding on the other...

Does you LO not eat on the side you pump on? DS always eats on both sides for about 15 minutes each. I have never pumped while he ate b/c I wanted to make sure he got enough. I usually feed him, then pump and I only get 2 oz on one side and 1 oz on the other usually.

  • Wow!  You have a lot of milk if you're getting that much after he eats!

It's totally normal for one side to produce more than the other.

  • Sometimes I have a lot of milk and sometimes I don't. I guess that is normal though.

I was just worried that if I pumped the left while he ate on the right, what happens when he switches to the right and there is no milk left.

  • I've wondered this too! I always offer both sides as well and only get a minimal amount after I nurse.  I typically try to pump 45 minutes after I feed ds-I tend to get more than if I do it right away!

  • I pump one side and feed one side for the 1st morning feeding only.  That's when I seem to have the most milk and he is satisified with just the one side. I am able to pump 5-6 oz during that session.  All other feedings I offer him both....then  if I pump I only get 2-3 oz
