DH just got laid off...

DH just called me to let me know.  He only started this job 6 weeks ago.  We were already in a shiity financial situation, from my layoff in October forcing me to take a $5 an hour pay cut.

Speechless.  Freaked out.   Can't pay the mortgage.  Losing my mind.

Re: DH just got laid off...

  • I'm so sorry. My MIL just got laid off yesterday. Tough times for a lot of people.

  • That sucks big time.  I say get on the horn to your bank and see if they have any options for you guys.  Good luck and hopfully he will find new employment really really fast.
  • *hugs*

I'm sorry. It's stressful when it happens. DH got laid off in February (he gets full pay each two weeks until June 3rd though, and June 3 is his technical lay off date). We've been able to get a few things paid ahead with his pay continuances but not much.

Times are tough, but everything will work out.

  • I'm so very sorry.  My DH has been out of work for awhile too.  Try to stay positive and keep your chin up.

  • i'm sorry to hear it.  time to start cutting all non-esentials and to think creatively about bringing in some money.  how likely is it that your H will find something new quickly?

So sorry - my dh has been out of work since Jan, I know how you feel! Take it one day at a time. I've known some people who were laid off and landed a new (better) job really quickly - hopefully the same happens for your dh!
  • Oh I am sorry.  It will all work out.

  • I'm sorry- I'm in the same situation so I understand.

Contact your mortgage company about getting your loan modified.  It's called the making homes affordable act and if you have a hardship (being laid off qualifies you) they have to modify your loan to get your payment down to 31% of your gross income.  I'm in the process of getting this done now but it's taking my mortgage company FOREVER so def contact them asap!  GL!!!

  • Oh man, that really sucks.   I worry every day about that, as DH works in the financial industry and is our main source of income.

With that said, make sure he's up early Monday morning and in line at the unemployment office so he can get the paperwork going!!

  • I'm sorry! We are in the same boat if it's an consolation...agree with PPs about contacting your mortgage company now though - we are also waiting to hear back from ours.
  • I'm so sorry.  I hope he finds something else soon.  My DH was laid off a few years back and it was terrifying....the job he has now is so much better, but it was a nightmare at the time.

Please be wary about the mortgage modification.  I'm about to lose my house because my mortgage company screwed with me for 7mo just to deny it and pursue foreclosure.  I've had to hire and attorney and file complaints with banking regulators....it was the worst move I ever made.

Don't let them take advantage of you like I did.  I trusted them and lost.

  • SO sorry -- I agree with pp that you should see what your bank can offer you.  Thinking of you...
  • I'm so sorry... I don't know what to say besides that totally sucks hardcore.

Best of luck and vibes for him finding something better with good $$$

  • Right there with you... DH got laid off in January. We just bought our house in October too. We are in the process of doing a streamline refinance. No re-applying (which we couldn't since DH isn't working), just sign new paperwork. We are told we might get 4.5-4.75% which could take off $200-$300 per month on mortgage and get us through this. Maybe that could help you...

  • I am sorry, times are so tough right now and it really sucks.  I completely know what it's like to struggle with money, so I feel your pain.
