Swine Flu Precautions... what are you doing?

What precautions are you taking with your family on the swine flu situation?? My folks are driving me nuts as they are uber paranoid and practically want us to hibernate with the baby until this is all contained. Of course, I'm all for being careful, prevention and taking precautions esp with a baby but are we supposed to say home until who knows when? We're going to SD at the end of the month, my folks are advising us not to go, since it is near Mexico. DH & I are watching the news and will decide when the trip is closer. We had plans for mom's day lunch at a popular loca resto but Mom now changed her mind as the resto is too crowded/too many people. Sigh.....   just venting as I was looking forward to both of the above events.

Re: Swine Flu Precautions... what are you doing?

  • Nothing.

I just attend a class on this (at my job). I am not that concerned about it at this point. More people die of the regular flu.

  • I've given up pig-licking. Completely. Cold turkey. I'm going swine-free. You know, uncooked, walking-around swine. Not the tasty smoked varieties. That's just ridiculous.
  • You're serious?

Just wash your hands.  Like it's been said 100 times, this is not much different from the regular flu - which tons of people die from every year.  The media is making it a circus and freaking everyone out...unnecessarily.

  • Not kissing pigs anymore in the pale moon light Sad

Seriously I keep an eye on the outbreaks etc.  Follow universal precautions and that is about it.

  • We are doing absolutely nothing...at least, nothing extreme or out-of-the-ordinary.

Washing hands, disinfecting unfamiliar surfaces...all stuff we do, anyway.

  • Um, pretty much nothing.  I mean, we wash our hands a lot ... but, this is the FLU we're talking about.  Not Ebola.

  • I was a wee bit freaked out the first day or two but now?  It doesn't even cross my mind!!!

  • We are living our life!!  You dont stop going out in the winter time because of the normal flu or RSV do you?  I know we dont.

  • Nothing different.  I think it is all a big over-reaction.  The regular flu is more deadly.
  • We all have matching hazmat suits in yellow.  It's very becoming.  I'm hoping the trend picks up soon because I'm getting funny looks when I shop at Target.

  • I have a kid who has medical issues so we do have to be a little more careful but that's not just because of Swine Flu.  We need to stay home more, stay away from crowds and we wash our hands religiously.

But if I didn't have a kid with immune system issues we'd go about life like normal.

  • honestly, I'm not doing anything I wouldn't normally do. I'm not even thinking about it... well, I take that back, I am making sure to wipe down shopping carts w/ disinfectant wipes if I don't have the cart cover, but I would probably do that anyway.

So you got the yellow ones, huh?  They were all out, so we had to settle for construction cone orange.  They're hawt!
