I'm getting so frustrated w/ names. DH and I love the name Avery for our baby boy. It's tradionally a very Southern boy's name. However, recently it's been hijacked by parents using it as a girl's name. Just like Ashley and Riley - both used to be boy names, but now are mostly girl names.
So, how many Averys do you know and are they boys or girls?
Do you think of Avery as a boy or girl name? (Even though it is really a boy's name.)
I know 2 Averys under the age of five - one is a boy, one a girl.
Re: The name Avery - boy name or girl name?
I know 2 girl Averys 5 and under and no boy Averys. I def. see it as a girls name regardless if it started out as a boys name. I see as I do Sydney and Madison and those were both male to begin with.
The spelling Avery ranked 38 for girls and boys it ranked 216. They also showed a few different spellings for Avery which makes it even more popular for girls.
Auuugh! It's so frustrating about Avery!!! As far as Riley, our best friends have a boy named Riley and I know they sort of regret giving him that name because it's mostly a girl's name now. I have lost count of the number of baby girls I know named Riley, there are so many.
this. And I can think of two little girl Averys I know.?
I really wish it was still ?more just a boy name, I think of Charlotte's Web, too
On the 2008 list, Avery jumped to #38 for girls- it is #216 for boys.?

I used to work with a guy named Benjamin Avery (he's in his late 30's) and for me, it will always be a boy's name.
We love it for a boy so it's on our list.
Avery is actually top on our list for a girl.
DD is Avery. The only other Averys we have met have been boys. The children's room at Ikea tried to give me a boy named Avery by mistake a few months ago
We specifically wanted a unisex name since H and I both have one.
