When to start taking DC to dentist?

Ethan is 16 months... do you think I would need to start taking him to the dentist in the next year?

I've read that they are supposed to get their first flouride treatment before age 2, but then again, the dentist DH and I go to said there was no need for him to see a dentist until he was 3 or 4 as long as we brush twice daily and teach him good habits.

You may want to check with your insurance though.....as good as ours is, they won't cover anything until Luke is 2. So we're going right after his 2nd bday!

Our pedi said that as long as he didn't see any issues with DS's teeth, to keep brushing at home and wait on the dentist. I asked my hygienist last time I was in and she confirmed. However, she did warn me to start now (a few months ago) trying to brush DS's teeth really well. Her 5 year old eats fruit like it's going out of style and has had a couple cavities already! Luckily Caleb loves to brush his teeth....I think he just loves his Thomas the Tank toothpaste! :-)

Between 18-24 months. We took our son at 18 months. My husband is in the dental field so he is extra particular about dental health.

We're going at 2. My cousin is our dentist and she said that is fine. Like others said, brush twice daily. We've been brushing with a finger brush since before Ava had teeth.

Our current dentist says 3 but we are going to try to take him at 2 if we find a dentist closer to us (mine is still in Dayton, OH). We also have to check with our insurance and get DS on it next year. He has all 16 teeth but he loves brushing his teeth thank goodness and he lets us do it before he does :-) It is just up to the dentist that you go to really.
