When to take HPT

Good Morning!

DH and I are TTC - by using OPK I believe I O'd on Sunday - we BD Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Weds - I am (over the past two days) feeling very thirsty, peeing more often, and getting "gas pains" each night...

My O was pretty late in my cycle, Day 18, and I am supposed to get AF next Thursday - when would be a good time to take a HPT? I was thinking Friday..

    I wouldn't test earlier than 10-12 DPO...I don't think there will be enough HCG if you are...

    and take an HPT no earlier than 8dpo & even that's too early, IMO.

    Oops!  I meant to say I was thinking of testing next Friday - which I think would be 12 DPO...

    I was wondering that myself...lol... love the dancing bear...

    Oh and only 3 more days and I get to meet back up with you and the other girls....YAY SO EXCITED!!!

    #1 day 18 is NOT a late ovulation.

    #2 it is too early to feel symptoms if you in fact O'd on Sunday

    #3 you should wait until 14 dpo to test.

    If you O'd on Sunday, then having sex Sun, Mon, Tues and Wed was probably too late.

    I think you need to check out this board and buy the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

    I ovulated on April 1st and couldnt get a BFP until April 13th or 14th. And that was with one of those super duper early detectors. Good Luck!

    You probably shouldn't have many symptoms right now though. But everyone is different Big Smile

    based on the directions for the OPK (clear blue easy digital and answer) - have sex 24-36 hours after surge - We first had sex about 15 hours after surge... so hopefully it was not too late.

    An OPK only measures a surge in LH.  It cannot confirm ovulation.  Just fyi.

    in response to 2 of the above posts...day 18 could be late for her, it wasn't specific enough to correct or criticize...and in defense of the having sex too late...a lot of people tell others who are TTC that you have like a 5 day window after ovulation to conceive...it was amazing how many times I had to just ignore that little piece of "advice" when I TTC...I definitely agree that if she didn't get KU...she needs to get the book though!!!

    Used a Clear Blue Digital the first time (shows Pregnant or Not Pregnant) and it was negative.... then tested with an EPT GOLD and it showed the double lines!

    I would wait until period is late. I waited until I was a week late, even though I had all the symptoms, just because I didn't want a false negative!

    Sept 2008 - Jan 2009: Clomid 100mg
    Feb 2009: 200mg Clomid = BFP! on March 20, 2009 - It's a BOY!
    Nov 26th 2009: Aidan Michael, 20.5" 7lb12oz
    Feb 2010: Start TTC again, the old fashioned way
    Mar - June 2011: Clomid 100mg
    July 2011: Unmedicated cycle = BFP! on August 29th, 2011
    Nov 6th 2011: m/c due to subchorionic hematoma
    Dec 2011: Start TTC again, unmedicated
    February 12th, 2012: BFP! EDD 10/23/12
    Mar 12th 2012: diagnosed as blighted ovum

    The only way to confirm ovulation is by temping.

    I would wait until at least 10 DPO.

    Also, the best time to have sex in order to actually conceive would be the 5 days preceeding ovulation, the day of ovulation, and the day after. Having sex several days afterward is pointless.

    thats probably fine. As it says one most HPT's there is a window of days before your missed AF that the accuracy increases, probably assuming a 28 day cycle, but at 12 dpo you should be ok. I got my BFP at 13 dpo ( the day before I expected AF), and others have gotten it a bit sooner, but if you get a BFN, wait a few more days and test again to be sure!

    Thank you =) I have a feeling this is going to be the longest week of my life! I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but I can't wait to find out!
