Slowly I am doing our registry and need some ideas...what are the top 5 things that you cannot live without? I have down the Medela Instyle pump already. Anything else?
Aside from the basics (baby furniture, car seat, stroller, changing pad, diapers, etc.)
1. Baby carrier - we have the Lascal M1 carrier, and it adjusts nicely for both me and DH, and it can be used at first with the baby facing you, and later facing out. I wouldn't have gotten anything done during those first couple of months without it.
2. Kiddopotamus Swaddle Me or the Halo Swaddlers -- makes swaddling the LO easy. DD, still sleeps in one (Kiddopotamus luckily makes a larger size too).
3. Video monitor -- DD is sometimes a noisy sleeper, and there have been many times I would have gone into her room (and probably accidentally woken her up) if I hadn't been able to look on the monitor and see that she was still asleep.
4. Glider w/gliding ottoman -- It has been a lifesaver, and not just for feeding DD. When nothing else works, I can always swaddle her, glide in the glider and sing to her, and she calms down.
5. Graco Sweetpeace Newborn Soothing Center -- It's like a deluxe swing, I guess. It has been so great. I will be very sad when DD outgrows it.
1. Co-Sleeper: I use this all the time. It's nice to have in our bedroom at night, but its really nice to have for day time naps and I can wheel him around - like while I'm in the shower he can be in the bathroom so I can check on him.
2. Swaddle blankets: I like the ones made by Carters. They seem to be the perfect size. I have some by Circo that I got at Target and they're just too small to swaddle. We didn't receive any as gifts so we had to buy these last minute. We got tons of the soft fluffy blankets that we can't use just yet.
3. Burp cloths: Make sure they're think and fairly large.
My Baby Bargains book was my registry bible. I used that, along with online reviews to do pretty much my whole registry. Then, when I thought I was done, I emailed the registry to a few moms and had them critique it for me. They told me things to add that I didnt have, and also things they found were a waste of money and I should take off.
You'll find that each baby is different whether they like the swing or bouncy seat. My DD loved her bouncy seat but we only used the swing for one month. We hardly used a baby carrier also. With that said, I registered for all of it b/c at the time we didn't know. We also never used a diaper genie or a Boppy Pillow.
1. bouncy seat
2. activity mat
3. burp cloths
4. swaddle blankets
5. Boppy Newborn Lounger- my DD lived in this for the first couple months! She was always so content in it.

I agree...our little guy didn't care for his bouncer or his swing (we also have the Sweetpeace...glad it was a gift ). He also refused to be held in a sling or Bjorn, but insisited on being held in someone's arms! Now he can tolerate the Bjorn, so things can change. What I can't live without now at 9 months old is totally different than what I couldn't live without at 3 weeks old. In the beginning and for the first 3 months or so, I couldn't live without a cosleeper, burp cloths (we used the Gerber cloth diapers as burp cloths), and no lie, lanolin nipple cream, although most people probably don't want to register for that, LOL!
These days, I couldn't make it through a day without my BOB Revolution, Puffs, and Sophie. I really wish I would have gotten a video monitor instead of a regular one, now that he pulls himself up and I can't tell from the noises if he's standing and ready to get out of his crib or just rolling around trying to fall back asleep!
I think anything you put used diapers in (diaper champ, ect.) is a waste of $$ and space.....same with changing table...
I would say a bouncer (mine hated anything with toys on it)
Baby washclothes..(they are thin). I still use the crap out of them. When B was a baby, I would use them in place of burp clothes, or when feeding, for spit up...and now I use them after eating.
Sleep sacks.
Receiving blankets (I would use those as changing mats as well.)
My son lived in his Boppy for a very long time. He also loved both the bouncer & swing but not at first. Angel care monitor was amazing for us! Sleep sacks & swaddle blankets!!
Here is what saved us during those first few months.?
1. Boppy- I used these while bf and bottle feeding, still use it today.
2. Swaddle Me Blankets- Some babies dont like to be swaddled, but ours loved it. We would have been miserable without these. Next time I am going to try the miracle blankets.
3. Swings- We didn't get bouncy seats, but the boys loved their swings, they slept them for the first couple of months. ?
4. Angelcare Motion Monitor. We ?loved the peace of mind this gave us, totally worth it.?
Boppy for sure - I actually had 2, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. Than I didn't have to worry about bringing one every where with me in the house. Still use them today!
Swing - this was the only thing that would get him to nap during the day.
Burp cloths - he was a spitter upper. Don't miss that at all!
onesies - he lived in those during the summer. And since he spit up so much, he would go through 3 or 4 a day!
Stroller - I am not a big fan of putting my baby carrier on the top of shopping carts like you see all the time. I just think someone is going to bump me and he'll go flying. So we brought our stroller every where, Target, grocery shopping, Church, shopping - it was great!

Good luck and have fun!
Ditto on these. And you honestly need more burp cloths than you would think.

#1 - BOUNCER! it was our lifesaver, especially in the colicky days. I feel like I owe FP more money.
#2 - Boppy - used it in the hospital from day one. I didn't BF but it helped protect my c-section incision.
#3 - washcloths & burpcloths. dont need to be fancy at all but you need a lot of them.
#4 - Sony Baby Call monitor
#5 - Gerber thermal receiving blanket - best ever and only $5.99

Stuff we loved:
bouncy seat - life saver!
video monitor - we still use it!
miracle blanket for swaddling
my brest friend nursing pillow - dumbest name ever but the pillow rocks!
I agree with casncort, that each baby and parent do indeed have different needs.
But these are the things that I loved:
- boppy pillow (DS did not like My breast friend--got him hot easily from their foam as boppy pillow is made from pillow material)
- hooter hider
- around we go activity center
- if breastfeeding--medela freezer bags (very quick to defrost if needed that day).
- fisher price heathy care booster seat
- Germ Guardian nursery sanitizer (used to sanitize things that can't be washed or put in dishwasher)

4. Angelcare Motion Monitor. We ?loved the peace of mind this gave us, totally worth it.?
Hope that helps! ?

definitely the pump - but you got that
1) Monitor - we still use it
2) Sling - she hated the carseat and stroller since she wanted to be held - so it freed my hands when I was out
3) Stokke Tripp Trapp highchair - she didn't like the regular high chair - this one pulls up to the table
4) plain white cloth diapers. I found the cute fancy ones didn't soak up as well.
5) these waterproof pads for the diaper change area - in the beginning diaper changes were often messy/leaky - I could just throw this in the wash and grab another without having to take off the cute cover (which also didn't get stained or ruined) Plus you can use them anywhere you want to change DC. https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2738021&fromRegistryNumber=44269357&product_skn=380542
Ditto APK! bridetobe let us borrow the baby bargains book and it was our like our baby bible - we took it to BRU when we registered.
What I learned from it the must haves are:
1. Carseat
2. Burp cloths
3. Swaddle banklets
4. layettes
5. a few cloth diapers - in case of rashes or you can always use them as burping cloths.
