We had our second night of Ferber last night. Thanks to all you lovely ladies who answered my sleep poll yesterday we made a few adjustments on our bedtime routine - started it a little earlier, did a little quiet playtime after her bottle. Mikayla was in her crib by 8, she played in there until about 8:30 when she started to fuss and we started checking in on her going by the Ferber method. Around 10 everything was quiet. We snuck a peek and she was asleep in her crib, but on her tummy (I had that ACK, SIDS!! moment but her face was to the side and she was breathing fine, it took everything I had not to go in and flip her onto her back though). She stirred a bit during the night but otherwise slept straight through til 8:30 this morning. So, compared to our first night when she didn't fall asleep til 1:30 in the morning, I would say this is an improvement.
I'm attempting to do Ferber for her naps today, the first time was a bust, she fussed a bit then just ended up playing, I finally just took her out of the crib after an hour when she obviously wasn't going to sleep. We played, had some lunch and I gave it another shot... she fussed for literally a minute and now I just peeked - she's fast asleep!!! Success!
It's still SO hard to have to listen to her cry at all, but I know this is going to be better for her sleep and our sanity in the long run. Thanks everyone for all the input and advice! Hopefully this is the start of happy bedtimes in our house!
Re: 2nd night of Ferber...
Good job Deb! Ferber never worked for us, Payton would just get more worked up when she'd see me come in there. I'm glad it's working for you.
Also, The SIDS risk signficantly decreases after 6mo, so M should be ok to sleep on her belly.

Isabelle has been sleeping on her tummy since around 5 months and has slept a million times better ever since. She automatically flips over now. I do check her A TON, but its great. SO, SO glad it seems to be working.
We did Ferber when DS was just about your DDs age and it worked for us too. It really did take only 3 nights for it to magically work but those 3 nights were torture! I remember DH having to keep me in our bedroom and I would hold a pillow over my ears. But, it worked and everyone in our family became much happier with the sleep we were getting. In fact, we had to do it in a modified form recently again and he's 3 now because after being sick for a week and sleeping with us, he wouldn't stay in his bed.
Good luck!
DOn't worry about the tummy sleeping. If she's getting herself there (and she's clearly old enough to roll on her own) she's fine!!
Ben's a tummy sleeper too. Well, he was until recently.. now he's a flip flopper.
I hope it keeps going better and better.
One thing to remember is naps and night slepe are VERY different to these kids. So don't be discouraged if you have a harder time with naps. I only could deal with working on one thing at a time. I waited til the nigh tsleep was really well established and then started with naps.
Sounds like good night sleeps are in your future. Nice work.
