Question about pumping and dumping

Hello. My DD is 3 months old and is breastfed. Last night I was making cookies and ate a lot of the dough, not even thinking of the raw egg in it!  Should I pump and then dump that bottle? Would the feeding immediately after I ate the dough have any effect on her?

Thanks so much; I'm just paranoid now!

    I wouldn't dump.

    The only time I have ever dumped is after having a night out with the girls and drinking a few cocktails.  I have eaten cookie dough, sushi, soft cheese, super spicy foods, etc. and DD has been just fine.

    The say that there is nothing we cannot eat now.  I am not sure I really believe it, but I am sure you are fine.  Our bodies do a great job of filtering toxins and stuff out of breastmilk.  Besides, I am sure your cookie dough wasn't laced with salmonella :)  Isn't that the fear about raw eggs?

    The concern with raw eggs is food poisoning...this is a big deal when you are pregnant because it can lead to severe dehydration and even m/c depending on the pathogen involved.  There is no way for this bacteria to transfer to your milk so your LO is not at risk.  You are still at risk for the food poisoning though and I suppose if you got sick it would affect your supply but that would be the only concern.  I'd eat the cookie dough and not worry!

    You're fine, but if you really love eating the cookie dough--I use an egg substitute called Ener-G Egg Replacer.  I use it b/c of allergy issues, but it has a nice benefit of making the dough samonella free.  I think the refrigerated eggs-in-a-carton are pasteurized (as another alternative), but I can't use them so I haven't checked.
