Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Giving LO a lovey

I'm thinking a lovey might help ds with sleeping now that we are weaning him from the swaddle.  My question is how do you get them to like it?   I'm not sure if he'd like it, so I never end up buying one.

Re: Giving LO a lovey

  • I just lay DD down with the same blankie thingie with the teddy bear head for naps.  She doesn't need it for naps, but she does always cuddle up to it.  It's super cute.  :)

Yeah, those are the kind I've been looking at.  Maybe I'll just get him one and see how it goes.

  • I just started giving it to him for naps around 5-6 months. ?Every time he would go down I would give it to him. ?Once he got a little older, he started getting it at night. ?He snuggles with it all the time now. ?I don't give it to him unless he is going to sleep (not for playtime). ?

That makes sense.  That way he knows it's something only for bedtime.

  • If you BF, getting some BM on it (or even spit up) helps them make a connection with a lovey - it smells familiar.  I don't know if the same works for formula though.

We've been giving her a blankie for awhile, it used to just be in her car seat, but now I give it to her in the crib for naps and night time.  She loves it - as soon as I give her to her she hugs it and pulls it up by her face.  I usually have to go in once she's asleep and make sure it's not covering her mouth, she's done that a few times.

  • I was thinking about getting DD one but then she decided to start cuddling with one of the cloth diapers we use as a burp cloth. ?She loves those things!

    Oh, that's a good idea!

  • You don't need to get breast milk on it, just wear it in your shirt for a day or so, he'll LOVE it.
