So I had to spend a nice 3 hours at the health department today and here are some things I witnessed:
* a redneck woman with a rebel flag t-shirt rolling up a magazine to beat her 2 year old girl with for the slightest infraction. She then proceeds to tell the whole room she "wished it were a boy like her others cuz this one is just a biatch"
* no less than 6 baby girls with pierced ears - and one baby boy with one diamond stud.
* a baby around 6 or 7 months old drinking diet dr pepper from a bottle
* many parents swatting the hands or cheeks of their babies (between 4-8 months old) for fussing
* one woman left her baby with a man who was waiting so she could use the restroom. Said man was hugging and kissing on this baby while she was gone. CREEPY.
* a baby with a wet diaper so bad that her clothes were soaked. I offered the mother a diaper and wipes since I saw she had no diaper bag with her. And they had to wait several hours, too, and the baby never once was fed.
* many parents just dropped their infants on the ground and let them crawl around - on the most disgusting floor I've ever seen. One mom put her baby on a table and he crawled off and landed on the floor.
I just wanted to take many of those little babies home with me.
Re: I judged a BUNCH of people today
Wow, sounds like the peds waiting room on our Army base...a lot of those moms have no clue!?
Just being nosey, but why were you at the health department? I would try to avoid that place like the plague!

Holy cow. ?
I judged a family the other day at the clinic b/c they had pierced their little boys ears. ?Both of them. ?And had huge diamond studs in them.
WTH is wrong with people??
Seriously. What is wrong with people?
Our SS office is like this, too. Depressing.
i'm baffled by the idiots who have kids...there really should be a test.
u don't know her lyfe! her babee boi is fly with those studz
The girls have WIC. I had to attend a "class" today on introducing solid foods. I took a half day and got a sub. Our "class" consisted of being walked into a room with a video playing, in Spanish. The "teacher" walked out and said "just watch, I'll be back". The video ran through the credits, stopped, rewound, and started in English. Just as I could understand the video, she came and walked us to another waiting room - where we sat for 2.5 hours. I'm really upset that this is how the government program is run in our county. Some people really DO need to be taught the basics of solid feeding and nutrition.
Ugh! Hopefully, you don't have to go very often!
It definitely doesn't sound like that lady was doing her job!

that is SO sad jenni - you're right the programs should be better. some of those people really don't know any better and their babies deserve MUCH better.
there is just soooo many things wrong in that room. I din;t even kow where to begin. How do you not go anywhere without a diaper bag/ wouldn;t you get fussy if you were a small infant in a stupid waiting room with nothing to do? umm....where do I stop?
I didn't even take my girls with me, and I still had diapers/wipes/other baby stuff in my purse. I take them there ONLY when required - it is a disgusting hotbed for the ebola virus
