So my fiance and I had a wonderful honeymoon to Mexico planned for after our May 23 wedding. Now that THAT'S out of the question (thanks swine flu), we are trying to figure out where to go. When originally planned we were not expecting a baby and weren't planning on one, so now I feel like the situation is a little different. We're thinking maybe we should stay in the states just in case I'd need medical care? Maybe that's a little obsessive, but just wondering what you guys would do. We live in Florida so there are tons of places we could just drive to, to get away for a week. Hmm what to do!
Re: Would you travel out of the country?

I would definately go... I just traveled last week and just be careful flying if you are having any sort of morning sickness... I was sick as a dog after the flight!
We booked a trip to Mexico 3 months ago leaving May 22. At the time the idea of swine flu OR pg were definately not considerations. ALL THAT HAS CHANGED NOW. I was really bitchy with DH about the trip and finally he called the doc and was informed that we should go!
The reservations are in Tulum outside of Cancun and the doc explained that the resorts are nothing like the rest of the country and would have the same standards as American hotels. If we wouldn't leave the resort, all would be fine.
I am not sold on the idea yet, but am waiting until closer to travel time to completely rule out canceling and traveling later. Problem is we would have to go before the end of the year. I have some big plans for the end of the year!
Best of luck in what you choose to do! Enjoy your wedding and best wishes for your marriage!
I would, as long as I am going somewhere that I have a little faith in their medical system, and I would make sure to know where the nearest hospital was, just in case. I wouldn't want to go to a third world country, even though I know people who have safely given birth in such places. Their hospitals freak me out.
But, for instance, my bff went to Vancouver on her babymoon. She had already been in and out of the hospital a few times with pregnancy complications, but she decided that it was a short enough flight, and she could go to a Canadian hospital if need be (which she did do). Everything turned out fine - healthy baby boy is now 5 months old.
Me too. I think as long as your doctor says its ok, why not? Costa Rica was an amazing honeymoon destination for my DH and I and you've got so many other island destinations near you in Florida, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Bermuda, etc.
It probably is a good idea to check out the health care systems in your prosepective destinations though and to see what your insurance will cover overseas just in case.
I would be completely comfortable traveling to a developed country with modern medical care.....
I would suggest Grand Cayman. It is a British territory... and there is lots of banking and industry there, so I'm sure they have modern medicine (still check). I've been there and it is absolutely gorgeous! 7 mile beach = heaven!
I went to Central America 3 months ago prior to being preggers, and that would definitely be out for me now. No way in hell I would go there in this condition, nor would I bring an infant there.
Ditto! Except we're leaving on May 18 and we're still going. We're going to the Riviera Maya/Tulum area which hasn't really been affected.

I recommend the Caymans, it's beautiful there and pretty clean. Just stay away from any place that has problems with Malaria.
I wouldn't want to go to Mexico being pregnant..not because of Swine Flu. Every time I've gone there, no matter how careful I am with the water I ALWAYS end up catching some weird stomach bug and I can't poop right for a week. I wouldn't want to risk it while carrying a baby.
