Spotting after pap smear

I had my 13 week appointment yesterday. My doctor did a full exam and also a pap smear. She warned me that there might be some spotting afterwards and sure enough when I woke up this morning I had light brown spotting. Has this happened to anyone else? How long does it usually last? I'm paranoid now after reading on the internet that pap smears could possibly harm the baby. I had a miscarriage in November and it all started with brown spotting. The good news is we heard the heartbeat - 160bpm! Any advice would be great!

Re: Spotting after pap smear

  • When I was 9 weeks I had a pap and spotted immediately after for a week straight.

I had another internal exam done at 10.5 weeks and I spotted immediately after as well, and it stopped the next day.

  • I'm a doctor & Pap smears are a routine part of prenatal care if you're due for one; they absolutely DO NOT hurt the baby. Hope the spotting stops soon; I know it's terrifying.?

  • I had my 9 week appt. yesterday and my full exam. I had light brown spotting immediately afterward. I kept a check throughout the evening when I went to the restroom. By this morning, no more spotting.
  • I didn't spot after mine at 5w5d but my doctor did tell me that it was totally normal if I did.
