Seriously...how do you shower?

I know a lot of women will put their LO in a bouncy seat in the bathroom and sing to them while showering.  Save the shaving for when your H is home.
  • When I was home with my DD, I waited for DH to come home. I never felt too guilty about not being dressed up since I had been taking care of our LO.

  • When i feel like I don't have time to shower when DS is asleep, I just put him in his bouncer and put set it down on the bathroom floor with plenty of toys, etc while I go into the shower. He's never gotten fussy, because I think it's a 'new' place where he doesn't usually hang out AND the hot/moist air is good for him.

Yep, I have also laid him down in his crib after he was sleeping, grabbed the monitor and took a shower really quick.

  • I put DD in her chair in the bathroom with me.  The sound of the water and the steam are fascinating for her.  She is quiet and looks around the whole time.
  • On days when DS is awake most of the morning, after one of his afternoon feedings I immediately place him in his swing and then literally take a 5 minute shower.  It is definitely not relaxing, but at least it's a shower.
  • First of all - you just had a baby - who cares what you look like - you are bumming around the house and taking care of your child......second.....if you have a bouncy seat - bring it in the bathroom with you and put him in it - or if you don't - lay him in the crib or bassinet and bring the monitor in there with you.  This is what I used to do - now I wait until she is napping and just bring the monitor in there with me.  If she cries, I just hurry extra fast.
  • i showered every single day while i was on leave. i don't understand not being able to shower. i showered while Liam slept. sure, a few times i got out of the shower and he was crying, but the vast majority of the time he was still fast asleep.
  • It took me 8 weeks to figure this out but I get up early. This was hard to do but changed things so much for me. I get up at 6:30-7 AM DH watches the baby for an hour while I shower, put on makeup, eat breakfast and relax. It sets the tone for the entire day and this way I am not rushing around and getting frustrated during her nap times.
  • I have a baby who loooooves to sleep, so usually I shower after the 6 am feeding (early, I know, but it's really the only time until DH gets home from work).  I know this will all change once she's awake more often.  She loves her swing, so I will probably put her in it so I can shower.

This is what I've been doing too!

  • I was just thinking about this today!

I did get to take a shower is AM, and I just put him in the vibrating/bouncy seat.  He was alseep by the time I finished.  So I got to blow dry my hair, too!

I also sometimes do it right after he goes to sleep and take the monitor with me.

And then sometimes, I just don't get to take a shower. :)

I'm with you on feeling bad for looking like crap when DH comes home.  I know I shouldn't, but I think it's important to be somewhat attractive to him.  I'm saving tons of money on makeup...i hardly wear it anymore!

Me too - I have had no real issues with it - except trying to be quick about it...

he sits in his bouncer every morning while I shower and get ready.  the first few weeks when he was too small to sit in it, I would only shower while he was sleeping, which was rare!
  • I shower in the AM before DH goes to work or I pull the bouncer in the bathroom or put DS in his crib to watch his mobile while I shower really really quick.  I could only put him in the bouncer or in the crib with his mobile once he was 8 weeks, otherwise if I didn't shower while DH was home, then I didn't shower.

  • I keep his bouncy seat in the bathroom next to the shower.  He loves his seat (and he usually poops while he's in there too) although when he was smaller he didn't like it much.  It wasn't until he became interested in the toys that he'd want to sit in it for any extended period of time.  Some days he's so into those toys that he'll sit in that chair for an hour before getting bored and wanting out.  Those are the days when my hair actually gets done! lol!  When he didn't like the chair I'd just take very fast 5 minute showers.

I have no idea what I'm going to do when he outgrows that chair!

  • Bouncy chair.  Or skip it until someone else is there to watch her.
  • No new advice here - bouncy in the bathroom with me, or a quick shower listening to the monitor while DS is napping. ?But I did want to say that at the very beginning, I didn't always get a shower in. ?This was not a big deal, but now I always figure out a way to make it work because I feel so much better about my day if I am clean and refreshed.
  • I wanted to seriously reply to this: I get undresses, step in the shower, close the curtain, turn on the water...

BUT I know that you're being serious! Soooo...I would sometime shower before the FI left for work, OR when he was napping OR somedays I would wait until FI came home!  I looked like crap a lot too, but he'll get over it. Someday you'll wear make-up again and dress in normal clothes! I promise!

  • Bouncy seat, shower before DH left for work or beg a friend to come hold DS. Naps were rare and when he took one I wanted to be laying down. So, when he was awake and content (rather than the cling monster he was for so long) I used the bouncy.

    It gets easier!

I always shower before DH goes to work...it's the only way to be sure I can take one, and I am physically incapable of starting my day until I shower.

  • I take a shower when DH gets home.
  • I honestly don't know how people DON'T shower.  I took a shower every day while on maternity leave.  I always did it after DH left for work and while DS was in the crib.  It's not like I took a super long shower, sometimes it was less than 10 minutes, but I always got a shower.  Now, I'm not saying that I got dressed and had make-up on.  I usually showered and then put yoga pants and a nursing tank on.
  • Usually I just take my showers at night so DH is home.  If that doesn't work I will take one while he's napping.  I just take the monitor with me and if he starts to fuss I'll hurry up and get out.
