"swine flu is border control" ?!?

this hurt my feelings - I'm sure I should toughen up but come on lady have some sensitivity especially when you're talking to a Mex-American! Sheesh. This stupid lady was joking in the office and says to me, "yeah did you see that other American died of swine flu but she was Mexican. I think it's the government's way of population control with all of these Mexicans" For one, she talks about Mexicans as if they are a different specie and two, I don't think she realized I'm Mexican with my Italian last name - regardless wtf? Ahh, ignorance.

    Did you tell her that you're Mexican? I really hope so. I'm sure it hurt your feelings and you should have told her that.

    I always try to tell people stuff like that so that they might think before speaking again. Like when we were taking a long time TTC and people asked when we were going to have a baby, I told them we had been trying for awhile. And now when they ask when we're having another one, I tell them that we almost lost him twice when I was pregnant and I was hospitalized, so we're considering ourselves lucky to have the one healthy child that we do.

    I've even been known to fib and say I'm a nationality or religion when I'm not, just to (hopefully) make a person think next time.

    Wow!  I am sorry she was so insensitive. 

    I had a patient say something rude to me about Mexicans in town then ask what my backround was culturally speaking, I then let her know that I am third generation naturalized USA citizen from Mexico. Then she told me she wasn't racist, it is just there are too many of us around here.  I swear, some people really don't think before they speak, and aren't all that sensitive to other's feelings.

    Oh, and I did tell her my background and her response was "oh, don't worry when it start's killing blacks (she's african american) the government won't do anything either - they'll just let us continue with our genocide" - so that left me perplexed. I think she's just an angry person.

    OMG!  All I can think is conspiracy brother...terrible I know.  Sounds like she is a very angry person.  I am mixed, of many different ethnicitys, and I was just raised to love everyone and respect all cultures.  I don't get why people are like that.

    Who is "they"?  Isn't the government also made up of African Americans-  And aren't elected officials appointed by peope of various race, gender, religion etc....?

    And wait...oh yeah that's right the flu doesn't care what color, gender and religion you are?

    She sounds like a dolt.
