I'll take Catholic Trivia for $1000, Alex!

Last night, DH, DD's godmother, and I met with the Deacon to prepare for DD's Baptism.  The Deacon quizzed us on all kinds of "Catholic trivia."  The godmother and I didn't do well, despite having been raised Catholic and attending church weekly.  DD's godmother is a godmother for another friend's child and never had to go through anything like this for that Baptism.  What are your experiences?

DH isn't Catholic, but he is the godfather of a little boy that was baptized Catholic.  There were no issues with him being the godfather, and he never had to meet with anyone or have "Catholic trivia"!

  • Wow, we (me and dh) just had to sit through a 1/2 hour class refreshing us on what the meaning of baptism is.  And I complained about that!  There was just one other couple and the only question they asked us was "what are some symbols of baptism?"  After about 30 seconds of silence I volunteered oil as a symbol and that was enough for them.  Sounds like a strict deacon, I'm sure I would have been terrible.
  • Im Catholic. Not really too involved in church but we didnt have to go through this with DD #1 and wont with #2. I am also a godmother and DH is a godfafther x's 3 and we have never had to do that.
  • Thanks for the reminder! I just called the church where we want to baptize Quinn... Here's hoping I don't get quizzed. I haven't attended church regularly since I was in high school!

  • We have yet to begin the baptism process, but this makes me nervous! We are slacker Catholics (much to my parents' dismay). I am also in Baltimore - do you mind sharing which church this was at? (We are in Towson and deciding between IHM and St. Pius).
  • LOL, the Deacon probably would have questioned if I was even Catholic, I'm horrible at remember all that stuff!  DH and I had to go to a baptism class at the Church.  Basically just a refresher on the sacrament of baptism.  No question and answer period!  The weirdest thing said was "make sure you pick a Christian name for the child".........  The godparents didn't have to go to the class.
