I have yet to meet anyone outside of my family that does not keep their ketchup in the refrigerator. I HATE cold ketchup! Why do people do this to my favorite condiment?
It doesn't say anywhere on the bottle that it needs to be refrigerated. And think about eating in resturants...they keep it on the table at room temp.
Am I alone in my tepid ketchup preference??
Also, I noticed today that I was eating eggs that has a best by date of April 16th. I never even look at the date on eggs...I'll use them for months. Gross? Maybe. Do you check your egg dates like milk dates?
Re: NBR: Do you keep your ketchup in the fridge? And other kitchen questions...
I check egg dates and I'm obsessive over milk dates.
I thought ketsup would go bad if its not in the fridge?
DH puts the syrup in the fridge, that kinda annoys me.
I keep mine in the fridge. My aunt does not (she challenged me to find where it said to refrigerate on the bottle...it doesn't!). I can go either way. There is so much vinegar in there, it is naturally preserved wherever you keep it.
Eggs don't last long enough to expire in my house.
PS: According to Alton Brown and Europeans I know, a lot of other countries don't keep eggs in the fridge either. France for instance.
1. yes I keep the ketchup in the fridge - I've not met anyone who doesn't
2. I use eggs after the date, but I'm a stickler about milk. I love milk and I can't stand the sweet taste it gets when it starts to turn.
HA! I refrigerate it.
I don't think butter needs to be refrigerated either.
I do check the milk expiration, but with eggs...meh. I have probably had a few bad ones
)
I love cold ketchup. ?I'm guilty of putting unopened ketchup in the fridge just so I don't have to eat it warm. ?
As for the eggs, they have to be pretty old for me to throw them out. ?I don't eat them raw, so I pretty much ignore the expiration date.?
butter only needs to be refridgerated when it's warm out so it doesn't melt and resolidify making it easier for it to go rancid. Many products don't need to be refridgerated, but last longer if they are.
It doesn't...my mom keeps hers in a butter bell (it keeps it soft yet cool) on the counter. I would buy one, but we don't use butter (country crock all the way!)
Our ketchup is in the fridge...I guess I am with the PP...I thought that it was supposed to be.
As far as eggs go, we use them so fast, I have never had an egg that was past its date. But if I did, I would still probably eat it.
Another weird one...parmasan cheese. Does that go in the fridge? DH says no, I say yes...
I keep my ketchup in the fridge, not sure why just always have.
My eggs don't come with an expiration date. My mom has chickens and I get them from her. We go through them fast enough that I don't worry about them expiring.
Dh and I fight about syrup in the fridge. I keep in the fridge and he never find it.
We pretty much keep anything opened in the frig to avoid bugs.
I am not as paranoid about food spoiling as I am am about having food sources for insects.
DMoney will be a kickass big sister
I thought I was the only person that preferred room temperature ketchup. I keep ours in the refrigerator though because I thought it would spoil otherwise. Now I'm going to have to read the label when I get home.
I use my eggs long after the best by date. My grandma told me how to check if an egg is bad. Submerse an egg in a glass of water. If it floats, it's bad. If it sinks, it's good. I have no idea if that's true, but it makes me feel better if I'm eating it after the best by date.
Parmesan will keep longer if kept in the fridge. This, I have tested.
Milk will tell you when it's bad. When eggs are past their "date" there are certain ways of preparing them you won't want to do - like raw or semi-raw. And honestly, older hard-boiled eggs become much more difficult to peal.
I have become an egg nut, though, so I never get around to having old eggs in te fridge.
I keep my ketchup in the fridge. ?I'm looking at my bottle right now and it says "For Best Results?Refrigerate? After Opening". ?So you don't HAVE to but they recommend it. ?:) ?Well Heinz does anyway. ?:)
I cannot stand cold ketchup. DH loves it. He's a good man and let me keep it in the pantry.
I totally check my egg dates. I will not eat them past their date. They scare me too much.
Ketchup - i keep in the fridge. dh hates it. i don't care. lol
eggs - i go by the date, although my mom swears eggs are fine long after that date.
milk - i toss it on the date. earlier if it starts to smell funny.
I'm totally with you on this one!!!!!!!!! I don't put ketchup in the fridge cause I too prefer it room temperture. YET my DH always puts in there... one of things I"ve just learned to live with.
No I don't check egg dates but we go through a dozen eggs within a couple weeks.
I dont know of anyone who does not keep their ketchup in the fridge. Except at restaurants...
I do the same with eggs and milk though... I use eggs until they are all gone and I use milk until it smells beyond gross (I do use Lactaid Fat Free Lactose Free though, so there's not much to it...)
Noooooo!! The head cheese at Heinz must have gotten wind of my "no fridge" ketchup campaign...
