Parenting after a Loss

Is this a really bad habit? re: naps

I discovered about a month ago that staying home all day pretty much sucks, so I leave ... I go to a playgroup twice a week, I meet my mom for lunch at the mall, etc. As a result, DS naps in the Moby - ONLY naps in the Moby. He doesn't nap anywhere else. When I'm at home and he gets fussy and tired, he goes in the Moby. DH is getting worried that DS doesn't nap in his crib. I know he will eventually have to nap in the crib, but if I'm not at home ... I don't know. He sleeps in his crib at night just fine, and we have darkening things on the window in the nursery.

I am willing to stay at home for a few days to get him to nap in his crib, but I know it will be a long day of crying, and I'm not going to do that alone. But right now, since the Moby works, and he sleeps at night, is this a really bad habit?

 Any advice?

  • andrew only napped in his swing for the longest time even tho he slept in his crib at night. eventually i started putting him in his crib to nap, and it took a few days for him to take a good nap, but he got there. maybe you can arrange your outings for when he is not sleepy?

  • We have the EXACT same issue. DS will only nap in the stroller or car (i.e., in motion) or sometimes in the ergo carrier. He does great at night in his crib, but during the day it is much more challenging. I just wanted to say I am in the same boat. I keep telling myself that as DS gets older he will be better with naps.
  • It seems like he is only "not sleepy" for about 20 minutes ... but I feel like he's getting great naps. He sleeps sometimes for over an hour in the Moby. I don't know. Argh, I am so frustrated. :o(

I only read one sleep book, but fwiw, it says anything goes for sleep in the first 3 months, sometimes 4. I wouldn't sweat it yet.

I wouldnt worry about it - in the beginning they say that habits don't form so anything that works is fine.

Jenna only slept in the swing in the beginning and we moved her to the crib fine later on. We were worried to but she transitioned fine.

I say if its not bothering you and helps you to get out to maintain your sanity, then go for it.  Babies change so much anyways, it might not work in a month.

  • Nah.....I think its fine. ?His napping habits will change MANY times over the next several months.....if it works then it works. ?Soon he'll ONLY nap in his crib or in silence or whatever else. ?Right now I say let it ride.....

  • Thank you all for your support. It really helped me to read this this morning because I was up every 2 hours with him last night. That's never happened before ... so I needed the pick-me-up.
