pulling at ear always = ear infection?

DD has been pulling/touching her ears a lot lately and been fussier then usual however she is teething so i think that is the reason for the fussiness. i am not sure if ear pulling always = ear infection. she seems to mostly do it when she is tired.

  • No, it's also a sign of teething and my first DS does it when he's tired.

  • DS was doing this and I thought it was just a new tired signal...turns out he had a bad throat infection that developed into a nasty cold! ?I would take your LO to the pedi if you're concerned about her behavior...

Nope not always...I thought that though.  I took DS to pedi for the same thing, his ears were fine.  Now I've realized he ALWAYS does it when he's tired, sometimes while taking his bottle too.  It's usually his right ear, but sometimes his left one too.

If she continues being fussier than normal, it may be worth a trip in to rule out an ear infection, it could be hurting her.

  • DD found her ears too and pulls on them when she's tired.  I thought ear infection too, but she's fine.
  • DD was doing the same exact thing.  We took her to the pedi and her ears were good, she had 4 top teeth coming in at one time! She still pulls at her ears when she is tired or taking her bottle, though. I think it's just her thing she does now?!?!?
  • My DS pulls them all the time when he is tired.
  • DS is always playing with his ears. He still has never had and ear infection(knock on wood) maybe your LO just discovered them

yeah i may take her in just to rule it out but i am pretty sure it's b/c she's tired or teething or both

  • No! My youngest two kids always pull their ear when tired. It must be a family trait. My mopther says my older brother did it to and if he couldnt find his ear hed go to sleep holding someone elses.
