2nd Trimester

Ok, this is a total 1st Tri question, but...

I'm totally craving pasta with vodka sauce.

I know that I should know better by now (especially since this is my 2nd pregnancy) but the little bit of vodka actually cooks out of the sauce and is therefore safe to eat, right?

Humor me, I'm being neurotic. Thanks :)

  • Yeah, its safe.  Once you cook alcohol the alcohol part evaporates.

  • *sigh*  I guess you did warn us.  Eat the flippin sauce.
  • you will be safe, it's not like you will be drinking a half bottle of vodka.
  • completely fine.. even a little bit of alcohol is apperently okay durring pregnancy. when i took my trip to italy many pregnant women drink wine with dinner etc. ?But i wouldn't recommend it.. the europeans do crazy things
  • I know, I know. I was immediately annoyed at myself for posting this. ;)

If you know that it's a1st tri dumb question, why not just go on the first tri board to ask?
  • yea it cooks off once the alcohol is heated...I hesitated in my first tri before I remembered back to working in restaurant time and never got drunk off Penne vodka

  • ha - i had penne vodka at a restaurant last week and haven't been worried about it since then. ?My DH assured me that the vodka was cooked out. ?It was really good. ?
  • I think it needs to be cooked off for 5 minutes, but pretty much everything gets cooked for more than 5 minutes :)
  • Yep, it should evaporate.

  • Now keep in mind I'm using the Food Network as my reference, but the alcohol does not burn off when you cook it.  According to the show I watched, the food retains a significant amount of the alcohol used in preparing it.  However, I would imagine the portion you would be eating would be completely safe.  I'm sure it would take a lot of vodka sauce to do any damage.
