2nd Trimester

Have you ever heard of a lotus birth?

This is when at birth, instead of cutting the umbilical cord, the child stays attached to the placenta until natural separation occurs. This usually occurs between three days to ten days. This is also called Umbilical Nonseverance.

The placenta is usually placed in a bowl or wrapped in cloth after it is rinsed off.
Even herbs like lavender, goldenseal or rosemary can be applied to help with the drying out process.

According to the site, Mom Logic, they quote an Australian doctor who went through three lotus births of her own.

She said, ?Lotus birth has been, for us, an exquisite ritual which has enhanced the magic of the early post natal days. I notice an integrity and self?possession with my lotus?born children, and I believe that lovingness, cohesion, attunement to nature, trust, and respect for the natural order have all been imprinted on our family by our honoring of the placenta, the Tree of Life, through Lotus Birth.?

I'm curious to know what other mothers-to-be think of this. Personally I'm so confused about the birth process and have know idea what should be done. I'm still researching all options but I thought this was one of the strangest things I'd come across.
